Maybe: At 46 you are probably perimenopausal and some of your symptoms could be from that. Also, you live in maine and will be vitamin d deficient unless you take 2000-5000 iu daily and vitamin d deficiency increases your risk of getting the flu and other viral infections.

I am experiencing back pain (severity: severe) (side: upper). The following also describes me: Muscle cramps or spasms. I've had it for a month. Help

Back pain: If your back pain has been happening for over a month, I would recommend seeing a kind and caring physician. They will take a thorough history and evaluation and determine if radiologic studies are needed. Chronic back pain could come from a number of reasons. Physicians may prescribe therapies such as NSAIDS, muscle relaxers or physical therapy. Please see your Dr. For more info.

Muscle cramp causes: Muscle cramps can be caused by many things - overuse/increased activity, muscle strain, being low on fluids, being low on electrolytes like potassium, calcium or magnesium. It is common for cramps to happen at night and those muscles to be sore the next day. If things like resting those muscles, heat, stretching or drinking more fluids don't help an examination can evaluate for local problems

I have taken a statin for 20 years. In the last year, zocor (simvastatin) caused severe muscle cramps. Now lovastatin does too. What alternative to stations?

Statin Alternatives: This is one of the most common issues that come up in my practice. Before changing any statin drugs - it is imperative to know why you are on them. However, there are other drugs choices available - namely Zetia (ezetimibe) - and niacin. Some non-medical alternatives I often discuss with my patients are exercise as well as the use of soluble fiber such as oatmeal and Metamucil on a daily basis.

Magnesium: Sometimes nocturnal leg cramps are due to magnesium deficiency. Occasionally they'll be caused by very tight calf muscles which need to be stretched before getting into bed. Try taking some magnesium to see if your cramping improves. Your pharmacist can instruct you on the type and dosage unless you discuss this with your physician.

PT: As long as you are improving with PT and there are no warning signs, you should continue it for as long as it is prescribed to you. It's a good idea to discuss surgical options and their outcomes with neurosurgeon.

Herniated disc: This may be caused by a herniated disc in the cervical spine. She should see a spine specialist. An MRI may be appropriate.
