It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. Injury: Muscle tear best heal with surgical repair (if large) or simply by resting the injured area. The tear will heal with a small scar in the muscle, so light range-of-motion activities are good to keep the healing scar in the muscle from adhering to surrounding tissues. After 24 hours, heat seems to provide most benefit, although i allow my patients to use whichever feels best. ...Read more
