A ua is a urinalysis, or chemical and microscopic analysis of the urine. The standard urinalysis is performed with a dipstick test for ph, blood, protein, sugar, and ketones. In addition, a urinalysis usually includes a microscope examination to identify if the urine contains cells, "casts" (structures that indicate a problem originating in the kidney) or crystals (such as ...Read more

Solid heterogeneous nodule that has doubled in size 2 years plus a right renal cyst, could they be related?
Son has complex right renal cyst & simple left cyst. Rbc & WBC in urine no bacteria, nitrite, or leukocytes, & trace amount of protein. 12 yrs old.
Most are benign: Son has likely seen a specialist as u know it's a complex cyst. We tend to follow these with kidney ultrasounds. Symptoms of pain, enlarging cyst or suspicious tissue within cyst would be indications for surgical intervention. Many excellent pediatric urologists in pa who can advise. ...Read more
How does one deal with a renal cyst that appears to be bosniak class II on a CT scan but that has sonographic features suggestive of malignancy (e.G., nodularity of wall or a nodular, irregular septum)?
Go with CT: I would suggest that the ct evaluation of the cyst is the more authoritative. I expect that the ct was done with IV contrast? ...Read more

What is the left adnexa? "exohytic cyst w/ solid mural nodule in the left adnexa likely arising from left ovary" what is this? And what does it mean?
Unclear: The left adnexa is the area on the left side of the uterus which is where the left ovary is located. It's not entirely clear that that mass is. Your doctors are probably not sure either. They may suggest a few things such as more imaging, repeating the imaging in a few months or a diagnostic laparoscopy. Hopefully it's not anything serious. Good luck. ...Read more
What exactly is a complex dermoid ovarian cyst with an enhancing mural nodule? And how serious is it?
Not cancer: A dermoid cyst is a benign type of turmor containing multiple types of tissue and has a characteristic appearance under sonography. It will always have a complex appearance and the mural nodule is simply part of that. Most dermoids gradually get bigger and have to be removed at some point, but if it remains stable it could be watched. Surgery can be done day surgery with small incisions. ...Read more

13 year old daughter has an incidental finding of mildly complex cyst (ovarian) of ~3*3*3 cm containing 10*6*5 mm mural nodule. Should I be concerned?
Not right now: Tell us why was her Ovary checked in the first place? Does she have any symptoms? This cyst can get bigger and the mural nodule can enlarge. This should be re- checked in 3 to 6 months time. If these show further growth then surgical intervention may be required. Find a good Gynecologist to help you sort this out. ...Read more

Can you tell me what a 2.4 CM left ovarian cystic lesion with 8mm enhancing mural nodule suspicious of neoplasm.
It is suspicious: You should ask your doctor what it means in terms of future follow up. Since it is suspicious, a repeat imaging study needs to be done in 2 months. I would also advise you to find out if a ca125 test has been done or not? This might provide further guidance as to the possibility of ovarian cancer (if the ca125 is high now, removal of this lesion (cyst) should be considered sooner than later). ...Read more
Is a exophytic cyst serious especially if mural nodules were noted? My doctor said she'd watched it for 3 months & check it again.
? location of the cys:
Where is this cyst located? Is it in your breast or Ovary or where?
Cysts are benign unless there is inside growth which makes it suspect for a tumor. So a closer monitoring is suggested. It may require surgical removal. ...Read more
I have two ovarian cysts, one complex and one mural nodule. They are very painful. I've had one in the past. Does this affect fertility/having kids?
Gynecology consult: Knowing a woman's age is a prerequisite to evaluate ovarian masses. I have not heard of a "mural nodule" in the context of ultrasound of the ovary. Complex cysts at times are benign ovarian masses, for example, a hemorrhagic ovarian cyst, which is the result of ovulation, at times they can be precursors of malignancy. The findings described should be discussed with a gynecologist. ...Read more
I have a complex cystic structure on right ovary with mural nodules what does this mean it is 10.7 CM.
A simple cyst is OK!: A simple (clear or see through) renal cyst is not a significant event. However, a complex cyst, (the one that appears to house tissue or clotted blood inside) is important to follow closely because it may be cancerous. However, if cysts are too numerous and on both sides, like in the case of polycystic kidney disease, the squished renal tissue over the years may lead to kidney failure. ...Read more

I have renal cyst. And my daughter was playin with me and kept kickin. My back. Now that kidney is really hurting. What's goin on?
Could a large renal cyst (5cm) be causing my lower back pain? If so, what are my options and what doctor do I need to see?
Possible, unlikely: If your renal cyst was found incidentally and not because of symptoms then it is probably not related to your low back pain. Generally renal cysts don't cause low back pain since they are not really near your low back. They might cause flank (side) pain. You would see a nephrologist to evaluate your cyst. I would suggest a spine physiatrist or orthopaedic spine surgeon to evaluate your low back. ...Read more
Large exophytic R renal cyst 12.9x9.8x10.7 kidney 11.5 vert. Span. Note says mild fullness R renal pelvis, no true hydronephrosis? Meaning??
See below: Simple cysts are of no consequence unless there is pain involved. Your cyst is larger than usual, but if you do not have pain I would not worry. Mild fulness of R renal pelvis is just a radiographic finding, I would not worry as it has no real significance as long as there is no hydronephrosis. ...Read more
