I have 3 fine stitches in my lip from a removed granuloma. I am applying bactroban (mupirocin) twice daily. My lips are dry, can I use a lip balm to stop cracks?
The inner lips of my vagina have been itchy for two days. Why shouldn't I use Bactroban (mupirocin)? Will it not help at all?
Staph keeps recolonizing in my nose and causing irritation on my lips and small difficult spots on my face. I'm healthy and only 22. Is this a common problem? Will it eventually get less frequent? Scared it won't stop. Used bactroban (mupirocin) in nares.
Recurrent staph: Eradicating staph carriage, or otherwise preventing recurrent infections, can be a difficult challenge. Some people have inherent increased susceptibility due to poorly understood immune system issues. But usually this problem can be solved. If the diagnosis of recurrent staph is definite, your next step should be consultation with an infectious diseases specialist. ...Read more

Ask your doctor: The doctor who prescribed these meds is properly the one to ask. In fact, he/she may be highly annoyed with you upon finding out that you asked a lot of remote-access doctors who don't have a doctor-patient relationship with you instead of him/her. This is not really responsible behavior. Don't be afraid to call your doc and ask. He/she would want you to. If he/she doesn't, find another doctor. ...Read more
Doctor, I am beyond worried. My 3month old suddenly was oozing yellow sticky pus on one side of his head. The emergency room gave him mupirocin and cephalexin. Is this ok? I can't stop crying. Will my only breast fed baby be ok? Please respond. Please!
Abscess: I am assuming the oozing was from his scalp and not his ear right? So it sounds like your son developed an abscess and it ruptured. The antibiotic and the ointment you were prescribed are absolutely appropriate. I recommend close follow-up with the pediatrician to make sure that all is healing well. Keep the area clean, monitor for increasing redness or swelling. Complete all medicines exactly directed ...Read more
My son may have a kerion on his head. His regular pediatrician rx kflex and topical mupirocin. If it is indeed a kerion sore, will these meds cure it?
Kerion: A Kerion is caused by reaction to fungal infection of the scalp, keflex & Bactroban (mupirocin) are antibacterial agent, they help only if there is 2ry bacterial infection but they don't treat the original problem, your son will need anti fungal medications such as griseofulvin & oral steroids, please talk to your pediatrician so he can provide these medications for your child. In winter I have very dry, flaky n chapped lips. Drink alot, tried oils n balms. Nothing seem to work. Please suggest any ointment for quick recovery?
Lip eczema treatable: Persistent chapped lips may be lip eczema, which can be treated like skin eczema, using Hydrocortisone cream, and Vaseline or Aquaphor to retain moisture. Sometimes, lipsticks or lip sunscreen chemicals are causing an allergic reaction on the lips. Other times, a person is a primary lip-licker (it's her habit). Once cracked, lips get irritated by routine foods and juices. A doctor can help out. ...Read more
Was given Desonide Ointment 0.05% for really chapped lips caused by Claravis. Was wondering how does this work for my lips? Is it a moisturizer?
Can Desonide ointment cause acne? Dermatologist gave it for chapped lips & after using it a couple of bumps appeared on lower lip. Not cold sores.
Perioral dermatitis: We know to avoid cortisones for this reason. The technical name is PERIORAL DERMATITIS. Never again use any type of cortisone on your face. Use vaseline or chapstick for dry lips. The redness and pimples around your lips may be temporarily worse when you stop desonide. Tacrolimus ointment and oral low dose minocycline or doxycycline will help. You can also add spironolactone to stop acne. See a de ...Read more
I have had chapped lips for a couple of months and have a drawer full of every chap stick that is available for purchase. What is the best remedy?
I have small bumps all over my lips that may have started after using an old lip balm. Its gotten worse the more I try to moisten my chapped lips.
A possibility is...: Allergic contact dermatitis from something in the balm (eg pollen if beeswax-based) or another additive. May have gotten worse because it is slowly developing over days (typical ACD) or if the offending agent is also in a second product you are using (eg fragrance). Prednisone or topical hydrocortisone (but need to confirm cause). Bacteria grown on old balm could also infect chapped lips. ...Read more
I have seriously chapped lips I have tried all good lip balm, vaselene, honey, sugar exfoliation, what to do?
Chapped lips: You may have developed a skin infection of your lips which you are constantly reinfecting by using contaminated lip products. I would see your physician to make sure you don't have a recurrent herpes, staphylococcal, streptococcal, or fungal infection of your lips. All of the above products could cause a contact dermatitis of the lips which can get superinfected and cause this presenation,, ...Read more
Persistent chapped lips....for over a month.....today developed small blisters all around my mouth.....allergic reaction to lip balm?
Chapped or herpes: Maybe but blisters may mean herpes labialis[fever blisters or cold sores] especially if tingling just before and crops of grapelike vesicles on red base, anyway petroleum jelly is great to prevent chapped lips, don't lick lips because the saliva evaporates fast and causes chapping, using any lip balm like chapstick is good to prevent, try another lip balm like above. ...Read more
