Many causes: This is generally due to normal mucous production which is abnormally expressed (poor sphincter tone, anal blockage) vs abnormal mucous production due to infection or inflammation. Intermittent nature (2X a week) is reassuring. Presume no blood. Would probably at least do flexible sigmoidoscopy even though colonoscopy only 2 years ago. See your provider when able. ...Read more

R/O IBS: IBS = irritable bowel syndrome is a diagnosis of exclusion. SX can be managed You need a full exam and blood work. Especially screen for H pylori . Also stool screen x 3 for occult blood /parasite/hpylori . you also need a baseline colonoscopy. While you are getting these items checked out you should stick to a gluten free high fiber diet .
