Many causes: This is generally due to normal mucous production which is abnormally expressed (poor sphincter tone, anal blockage) vs abnormal mucous production due to infection or inflammation. Intermittent nature (2X a week) is reassuring. Presume no blood. Would probably at least do flexible sigmoidoscopy even though colonoscopy only 2 years ago. See your provider when able. ...Read more

Prolonged contact with the intestines and colon result in carcinogenic changes--i.e., bowel cancer. Vitally important to have a bowel movement every day! You need more fiber (psyllium husks), magnesium, and water. ...Read more

See a doctor: You need to see a doctor soon, even if the symptoms clear up. If no anal sore (fissure) or obvious hemorrhoid (swollen bump in the anus), you probably have inflammation of the inside of the rectum or lower colon (proctitis, proctocolitis). Possible causes include STDs if you're at risk, especially if you've had anal sex; and inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease). ...Read more

Urgency for a bowel movement constantly but when i go sit down to have a movement it doesn't always happen. Also have white mucus stuff in poop.Cause?

Need a rectal look: This could all be from constipation and stool in the rectum leading to a feeling of needing to go - but with the stool so hard it doesn't pass easily (and mucous is the body's natural lubricant in this situation). But you could also have rectal irritation (proctitis) and a direct look at the rectum (sigmoidoscopy) is the only way to separate the 2 possibilities. ...Read more
