Blood clots in urine have stent from narrow ureter due to tumor. Clots passing are painful and blocks my urine. What could be the cause?

Several causes.: The presence of a stent in the urinary tract can cause irritation to the lining of the ureter and bladder causing bleeding. Tumors, besides obstructing, can bleed if they cause any erosion of the ureteral lining. If you are passing large clots and blood, a known risk of stents is the development of a communication between a blood vessel and the ureter. Please see your physicians for evaluation. ...Read more

22 year old male. I've have gross hematuria for months now with some clots in the urine. I've had neg cultures, ct and cystoscope. UA had protein?

More testing: You are "spilling"'out protein and blood in your urine. A CT scan is helpful in ruling out major structural caused and large stone, the urine analysis ruled out infection, the cystoscope would evaluate for abnormalities of the bladder. Other considerations would be systemic problems such as a coagulopathy or inflammatory condition, lupus being an example. If all those tests neg, consider biopsy ...Read more

I'm having infrequent but recurrent gross hematuria. Tests show proteinuria/mucus but no blood. All other tests normal findings. Cysto scheduled. ?

Hematuria: Large intermittent blood loss as you describe can often be ascribed by open bleeding tiny blood vessels. This diagnosis would require a kidney angiogram to localize any blood leak, because they can "plug it up" in radiology. Sometimes you never catch it when it starts bleeding. This is called angiodyspasia, not uncommon. Cystoscopy will look for bladder source of bleeding. ...Read more

Here's my thought...: How old is the child? Did he have any change in his usual voiding pattern? If everything as reported to be okay, it's most likely, he has non-bacterial self-limiting urethritis so just watch and see. If not going away as expected or recurring, taking a direct look with scope may be helpful, but rarely needed. So, keep in touch with and ask doc timely. ...Read more

Is it poss for radiologist to miss bilat renal calculi on a CT? What should pt do w/ micro & gross hematuria >yr (& cola colored urine)? give up?

Hematuria: Anything is possible but calculi are usually easy to see on a CT. Blood in the urine can be caused by many things including infection, stones, kidney diseases, muscle damage and others. We usually do blood tests to check kidney function, urine and often a CK to look for muscle damage. If those tests don't pinpoint the cause they at least help decide the next step. ...Read more
