Mucous In 2 Year Old Diaper
Small red spot in 2 yo diaper today. No blood in stool. Other day took rectal temp. Mucus w/ little red on it. Acting fine. Constipated often-worry?
OK unless recurring: Even if it is blood, a small amount, one event would not be anything to worry about. It could be due to the thermometer causing some mild trauma or constipation. It could also not even be blood. I would have it checked if it is recurring or if there is a larger amount of blood. ...Read more

I have a two year old boy im potty training him but he freaks out he doesn't want to take off the diaper?
Too early?: Parents are highly motivated to toilet train their children (less mess, less expense). Unfortunately, toddlers frequently are not ready as soon as the parents would like. Boys in particular are later to be ready for this training. I do not think that your son is ready for toilet training developmentally, and would recommend waiting until he is older. ...Read more
Can a two year old have allergies to a brand of diaper? There is no rash, only sneezing and and some congestion occasionally. These are sam's club members-mark disposable diapers.
It's Possible: Only way to know is to completely eliminate the brand to a totally different and unrelated maker. Then if the rash goes away, you can always re-introduce the old brand to see if the same reaction happens. ...Read more
My two year old's penis is swollen and very red! It hurts him to pull it back and clean it. I've put diaper rash cream. No change. What else can I do?
Don't pull it back: Now requires neosporin or Bacitracin oinment. May need some oral antibiotics if it does not respond quickly. Parents should not pull back, baby's, toddlers or little boys foreskins. Foreskin was designed to protect the penile glans & not retracted early. Retraction should wait until a boy is old enough to do it himself. U may have been given incorrect advice by a circumcised dr or well-meaning nurse. ...Read more

2 year old kicks and screams every time he gets his diaper changed. Is this just a phase? He doesn't seem bothered any other time
Just being a 2 year: 2 year Olds have figured out they can sometimes get what they want through kicking and screaming, especially if they have wimpy parents. He is feeling you out right now to find out if you are wimpy. If he finds you are, then it will spread to other venues. So hold your ground here and show him who's boss. Be loving but firm, he's not going to get his way acting like that. Good luck! ...Read more

My 2 year old daughter has a bad diaper rash. But she is in underwear. How and why is this happening and what to do about it?
If she is wearing a: diaper or pull-up at night, that could cause a rash. If she is having urinary accidents in her underwear, it could do the same. If not, she may be reacting to new underwear or a soap or detergent. Please have her doctor examine her and the rash, to determine the cause and treat it properly. ...Read more

My two year old keeps getting zits on his butt. We thought it was his diapers so we changed them. But he just keeps getting them. Any advice?
See answer: Best to see his pediatrician to get a definitive diagnosis as maybe it is (especially at this hot time of the year) a type of heat rash, and a steroid cream may help, as well as keeping the area dry. It could be a contact dermatitis if his diaper is wet or full, etc. There are also a very common skin conditions such as milia that usually occur on the face, but can occur on the butt. Best wishes. ...Read more
Normal, no: It is not normal for a two year old to have blood anywhere, but this time of year when the air is colder and drier this may occur. My 2 year old has so much mucus he can't lay down or he vomits it up. We have seen a doc who said it was viral. How can I help him?
Cool mist humidifier: In the average healthy child with a cold, the best treatment is to use a cool mist humidifier and encouraging liquids to thin the mucus. You can run a warm shower & sit with your child in the bathroom (outside of the shower). Having said all this, if your child has a ventriculoseptal defect, you need to keep a close eye on him and followup with your doctor if he is worsening or not improving. ...Read more
My son is 2 year old. .. He is coughing since last night with hoarse voice and little mucus. Any medicine. Secondly how do I dress him up at 70 tem?
Antihistamine?: Sometimes stopping the drippy nose is a best first defense. If the problem is more of a cough, a syrup with dextromethorphan may be better. Don't overbundle at 70 F, it may overheat your child and make things worse. Humidify the air and keep things around 68-72 F for best results indoors ...Read more
My 2 year old has a really bad daiper rash. For about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I have tried butt paste, extra strength butt paste, triple paste, baby powder, vaseline. Nothing seems to help in fact it seems to get worse. And every chance she gets she scratches it
A more specific description of the rash would be helpful.
If it's blister like or fluid filled bumps you should let your pediatrician take a look at it.
If it's red in the groin skin folds or maybe small pink/red dots then it may be yeast. In that case, try applying lotrim af 4-6 times a day. Lotrimin (clotrimazole) is an antifungal used for athletes foot treatment as well and you will find it on the foot product aisle.
If it's a beefy red color around her rectum then let your pediatrician take a look at it. ...Read more
2 year old keeps getting rash on legs and back, comes and go every few hours, had routine dr. Appt 30 days ago has minor cold and using new diapers?
My 2 year old has rsv. And she is throwing up green mucus when she coughs. What is that? And is there something I need to do?
Depends: Most 2 yo will handle RSV quite well but it can leave a significant cough for weeks. I would't be concerned about a little color in her mucous, it likely represents post nasal drainage. If she's drinking well, eating some and returning to normal play she's likely fine. If she's slowing down, refusing feeds and acting sicker, a re check would be worthwhile. ...Read more
I have been having this cough starts out dry then creates mucus that has been waking up in my sleep. It's been a week or more. I have had increased burping. I'm scared. Do you think it could be tb? I have a 2 1/2 year old child.
Since you don't: List classic symptoms of active pulmonary or laryngeal TB, it's possible, but unlikely. If you have been exposed to someone with active TB or are concerned, ask your doctor for a TB skin test while evaluating you for the cause of your night-time cough. In the absence of fever or other systemic symptoms, causes can be anything from a viral illness to asthma to gastroesophageal reflux. ...Read more

My 2 year old has had a fever for 2 days, infrequent urination, a runny nose for a week and now her eyes are red and leaking mucus. What could it be?

My son seems to be having a lot of very wet diapers all of a sudden. Could this be a sign of diabetes? He is 2 years old and hasn't lost any weight.
Drink more, pee more: When I hear hoof beats, I think of horses not zebras. More wetting does mean more fluid is passing through, but 2yo's often develop a drinking fetish, especially if it's sweet (juices are junk). The diabetic 2yo can quickly drop a pound a day & eats constantly at the same time. If u are concerned, let your dr do a urine test. If no sugar in the pee and the urine is dilute, gradually reduce the fluids. ...Read more
