Mucinex For Runny Nose
I have had a sinus congestion problem for almost 2 weeks. Been using Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm. No runny nose. Now extreme dry mouth the last two days. Infection?
Mouth-breathing.: Since Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm does nothing on the nasal congestion, your dry mouth is likely from mouth-breathing. Try a nasal decongestant and see if this may help (mucinex (guaifenesin) d?). If not, see your doctor to make sure that you don't have a sinus infection. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Cold symptoms 4 days, improving but still very congested, sneezing, runny nose. Will I get better faster by taking mucinex or by taking no meds?
Can my 4-year-old take Claritin and mucinex (guaifenesin)? I think she has allergies and the Claritin is not helping her runny nose and she is miserable.
Can u take Mucinex (guaifenesin) if u suffer from runny nose or blocked nose and sore throat only?
May not help: Guaifenesin (mucinex) helps bring up mucus. It may help with your nose. However, irrigating your nose with saline is going to be much more effective. If it is an acute problem, you may take oxymetazoline nasal spray every 12 hours for 5 days, after irrigating your nose. You can also rinse your mouth with saline. If your problem lasts longer, see a physician. ...Read more
I have severe congestion, sneezing, runny nose, awful dry sometimes yellow mucus cough, my mucus from my nose is clear. I took allegra, did not help at all. I cant decide if its allergies or a sinus infection/cold. Its been 3 days. Should I take mucinex c
Infection?: Try a different antihistamine, like Benadryl (diphenhydramine). If 25-50 mg of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) makes no difference, then it is not likely that your symptoms are due to allergies. There is no good evidence that mucinex is much help and it is expensive and has its own side effects, and I never recommend it. Avoid fragrances and aerosols while sick (add to irritation of respiratory tract). See MD if no better in 2-3 days. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Have clear nasal drainage, some cough for over week. Take Benicar and norvasc. Tried Mucinex (guaifenesin) but caused BP to elevate. What can I take to dry up?
My nose is extremely stuffy, I took 3 zyrtec pills and had mucinex (guaifenesin) as well. Did I take too much meds?
Not the right kind: Although even taking 3 Zyrtec pills may be ok (except for some drowsiness perhaps), you are not taking the right pill since antihistamine pills do not decongest the nose. You will likely have better luck with a nasal steroid. Some will find an antihistamine with a decongestant (Zyrtec D?) to be helpful but I usually try to avoid oral decongestants because of the side effects. ...Read more

I used Mucinex (guaifenesin) nasal spray (in my nose) to releave pressure pain in my ears. Now my ears feel stopped up, and still hurt.
Stop it: Mucinex (guaifenesin) nasal spray can cause worsening of nasal congestion if used excessively and can have you completely blocked up. Stop using it and start using a saline nasal spray. Over the counter decongestants can alleviate your ear congestion. If no change, see an allergist. ...Read more
