I gave my 2yr old bromfed dm 6hrs after giving her benadryl. Did I do something wrong? Will. She be ok?
Define wrong?: Neither drug is recommended for kids under 6. They used to be given often but more than a decade ago we realized more kids ended up in ER's with an overdose than got any benefit from them. Their main "benefit" was it gave you something to do. But they thicken the kids secretions and make them harder to cough out. A little honey in lemon juice can actually help more. ...Read more

Which Robitussin DM (guaifenesin and dextromethorphan)?: There is one for night time, which contains antihistamine, doxylamine, so Benadryl (diphenhydramine) then would be an extra dose, you need to be careful. Or the other Robitussin max strength DM, which doesn't contain an antihistaminic, then it shouldn't be a problem with the antihistaminic, read the labels carefully, also read about warnings with pregnancy, good luck ...Read more

Tonight I had 2 beers. It was two hours ago that I had my last one and I've also had two bottles of water. Can I safely take my mucinex DM?
Theoretically yes,: No interaction between beer and dextromethorphan, the cough sedating component of the Mucinex DM, but if two beers make you drowsy, and the dextromethorphan has this potential too, so it won't be advisable. I took 2 mucinex (guaifenesin) dm around 3 pm. I was going to bed and took another around 10:30pm and just took another around midnight. Should I be concerned?
No: Dextromethorphan is in the Codeine family, but unlike Codeine or hydrocodone (Vicodin) it isn't an active opioid and therefore available OTC without prescription and unregulated by DEA as a controlled substance (unclassed).
