The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Is Mucinex (guaifenesin) cough cold and sore throat cough syrup ok to give to my 3 yr old?

Is Mucinex (guaifenesin) cough cold and sore throat cough syrup ok to give to my 3 yr old?

Avoid Cold medicines: Cough in young children is extremely frustrating for parents. Unfortunately cough medications used in adults don't work in children. Decongestants in combination with cough medications can actually be harmful. Using guafenesin may be helpful to help secretions stay loose. Increasing fluid intake and humidity in the air can definitely help. Honey (for kids over 12 months) may be a natural remedy. ...Read more

Is mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus (new) better to use then Mucinex (guaifenesin) D (orange)?

Is mucinex (guaifenesin) sinus (new) better to use then Mucinex (guaifenesin) D (orange)?

Different: Mucinex D contains Guaifenesin 600mg (for cough) and Pseudoephedrine 60mg, while Mucinex Sinus Max Day has Guaifenesin 200mg, Phenylephrine 5mg, and Tylenol (acetaminophen) 325mg. I generally recommend Pseudoephedrine over Phenylephrine for nasal congestion so my personal preference would be Mucinex D. But if you have a fever or pain, Mucinex Sinus Max would be good if you don't want to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) separately. ...Read more

Influenza test: Better to be safe and have a rapid influenza test since this sounds very much like a viral infection. No fever leads me to think less likely influenza but better to rule it out. ...Read more

Bronchitis: You have bronchitis. Need to know if there is tightness in the chest or wheezing (asthmatic bronchitis). You do not require antibiotics unless purulent sputum (green or brown coloration). If dm doesnt suppress cough you may profit from a codiene containing expectorant. For bronchial tightness you need an inhaler or theophyllin (200 mg three times a day) or some steroids - like Prednisone few days. ...Read more

Can Robitussin (guaifenesin) cough syrup helps mucus fertility?

Can Robitussin (guaifenesin) cough syrup helps mucus fertility?

No. IUI is better: It has been thought that it may thin the cervical mucus but there is no scientific evidence that it helps increase fertility. Cervical mucus problems are a rare cause of not getting pregnant (unless taking clomid, (clomiphene) or some women with previous leep or cone biopsy of the cervix). Intrauterine insemination (iui) is a good option. See a fertility specialist (rei) if trying to conceive without success. ...Read more
