Mri (Definition)

Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. There are radiologists ...Read more

Numbness in left hand, bottom part of arm, bottom part of leg and left side of face.Mri showed white spots on brain, LP was negative for ms.

MS or not MS?: Iit is hard to find the cause of a symptom of tingling. The changes on your MRI could be related to your symptoms. When the LP is negative, it does not mean you do not have MS, but one must consider other causes, such as a virus of some kind, or other medical illnesses. It may help you to have some symptomatic treatment of your symptoms, maybe a nerve conduction study and a follow up mri. ...Read more

White spots on the brain shown in mri
and i'm having siezures
would there be any connection ?

Spots nonspecific: At your age, spots may be consistent with microvascular angiopathy, a sign of vascular atherosclerosis or even small strokes, which may be a focus for your seizures, but such lesions may be due to migraine, head injury, multiple sclerosis, and may have little to do with current seizures. Talk to your doc, as may need a medicine to protect against stroke. ...Read more

My daughter just had an MRI with 3 small nonspecific white spots on the brain. But no other syms of ms. She had numbness in legs but was due to hern.Disc shown on lower MRI ?

Nonspecific: Small bright spots are frequently seen on MRI of the brain, increasing with age. Sometimes there are features that are suggestive of demyelinating disease (ms), but otherwise they are usually considered nonspecific. Anything that affects the tiny blood vessels in the brain can cause these bright spots (e.g., migraines, diabetes, hypertension, vasculitis). See a neurologist if you are worried. ...Read more

Hello I've had 2 MRI brain scans for white spots on my brain and the expert doctors here still don't know what it is i need answers now! I've even had?

Many possibilities: Sounds like you're referring to t2 white matter hyper intensities. The possible causes are numerous. Developing some small spots is really fairly normal as one ages, but the devil is in the details of your films, your history, and your exam. Your neurologist would be best one to determine what these may be, if they are concerning, and if they require further investigation. ...Read more

Do small white spots on MRI of brain indicate multiple sclerosis?

Do small white spots on MRI of brain indicate multiple sclerosis?

It depends: Like many things in medicine, it depends. Some of it depends on the patient's symptoms, age. Many people have "white spots" on mris; there can be non-specific small vessel white matter disease seen on the MRI of many individuals with a western diet. White spots on an MRI also can mean ms, but it is usually in a certain pattern that is more specific for ms. Discuss your MRI with your neurologist. ...Read more

Mri of brain showed thinning mylin and white spots as well as grey mass...could this along with other be MS?

MRI brain: The thinning myelin and white spots are often described in the usual aging of the brain. Multiple sclerosis (MS) plaques are commonly found along the corpus callosum, periventricular white matter, cerebellum, brain stem, and spinal cord. A lumbar puncture with analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid will make the diagnosis of MS. See a neurologist to discuss the MRI findings in the brain. ...Read more

Mixed bag: This web article is on point: http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/central/pvm.htm About half of normal folks over 65 have T2 abnormalities (white spots). Folks in their 40s with migraines can also present this way. It is nonspecific though so a repeat MRI in a patient with continued symptoms could be considered, mostly since there is little risk due to MRI in patients who can have them ...Read more

I have never had a head injury. What can white spots on my frontal lobe indicate on an mri? I was diagnosed with epilepsy but think this is wrong

White spots, eh?: Presumably you didn't just wander into an MRI facility and made an impulse purchase. A doctor ordered the MRI, & for a reason. The MRI isn't the patient, you are. The MD who ordered the MRI is ethically obligated to interpret the scan results & correlate them with YOU the whole patient; or, if (s)he can't, to find someone who can. Ask to see the actual images & review them with your doctor. ...Read more

Is it normal for a MRI to show white spots on spine not the spinal cord but by the discs in between them

Is it normal for a MRI to show white spots on spine not the spinal cord but by the discs in between them

It can be: It is difficult to answer this without seeing the MRI or at least knowing more about the MRI. There are two main types of pictures taken in an MRI, they are labelled as "T1" and "T2" images. Also, sometimes contrast (a compound injected intravenously for the MRI) is given. A white area in the center of the discs on a T2 image is normally suggestive of healthy (well hydrated) discs and is normal ...Read more

Radiologist: In these situations I feel the best practice is for your primary care physician or neurologist to review the images with the radiologist who interpreted the studies and then discuss their findings and suggestions for any further investigation or referral to other specialists with you. If you're still not satisfied with their explanation, bring the films to another radiologist for a second opinion ...Read more

Let's assess: Likely, your MRI reflects prior migraine experience, and unlikely due to other problem. You now possess chronic daily headaches, which may be associated with analgesic meds, but could occur for other reasons. Lamictal is not my first choice to control migraine. Depakote not a bad choice, and may start to breakup pattern. Steroids may work far faster. Otc items may also be useful. Reassess. ...Read more

If I have a tiny spot in my brain shows on MRI and i had MS symptoms, could it be something else(not serious)? I had the symptoms for a month now.

Nonspecific: One tiny spot will not be diagnostic, and could be due to migraine or your head injury. If you do indeed have ms symptoms, further information can be gleaned from a spinal cord mri, and even spinal fluid analysis. Your neurologist could sort out other conditions which might mimic ms. ...Read more
