Solitary focus of nonspec white matter signal abnormality frontal region on MRI. All labs neg. Dr doesn't seemed concerned. Should I be? 34 yr fem

White matter : Nonspecific white matter signal abnormalities are a relatively common incidental finding on MRI. Various causes, sometimes associated with migraines, hypertension, vascular disease. Sometimes no known cause. Assuming your doctor has fully evaluated you, and you are otherwise healthy, probably not much to do about it, except possibly MRI follow up in 6-12 months to assess for changes. ...Read more

Mri (Definition)

Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. My MRI showed scattered white matter, but after that it said no lesions or masses identified isn't scattered white matter lesions?

Depends: I frequently see scattered white matter lesions. Aggressive work ups typically yield nothing. Think of it this way, the smallest blood vessels of your brain calcify easily with age, somethings, this produces small scattered white matter lesions. ...Read more

Half of face hot 2 touch & numb around temple chin & cheek ER catscan says no stroke. Worried what could it be? Does everything neuro show on catscan?

Hard to say: The 5th cranial nerve is responsible for sensation to the half of the face. Irritation of this nerve may occur and can cause some of your symptoms. You may consider an MRI scan to better visualize the region of this nerve. You may also consult a neurologist to see if there are other associated nerves involved-this would be helpful in pinpoint the site of the problem. ...Read more

Dizziness, legs buckling sometimes. have significant white matter on brain. 56 years old. Dr said Last brain MRI showed no change from prior MRI?

Not sure: exactly what the question is, but sometimes if there is severe and widespread white matter disease on MRI, it is difficult to tell if there is subtle interval change from scan to scan. ...Read more

Although an MRI can: show lymph nodes, they can develop quickly and it is possible it was not there two weeks ago. Ask your health care provider to examine this area and determine if it is something to be concerned about. ...Read more

Brain MRI shows periventricular deep white matter T2 hyperintensity bilaterally and slightly asymmetrical. What does this mean for my three year old ?

Neurologist: There can be several causes for the above abnormal findings and they usually are explained by some sort of brain injury or trauma. Abnormal brain MRIs in a young child need to be evaluated by a specialist. You should have the child seen by a pediatric neurologist to review the complete history and have a physical exam. ...Read more

CT shows 12 mm bright white lesion in brain. Looks like a hollow rock! also small speck like white spots. Could this be MS lesion, Dizzy/headaches?

Hold up: We see these "small specks" all of the time. Before I would entertain MS, I think that an MRI is a better study. Depending on your symptoms and what exactly this white spot is, your doctor will likely pursue and MRI to clarify things. ...Read more

Bad cough, ringing sound, blocked nose, shivering constantly, Monday white lump on thigh now red lump, itchy, from sunbed? Maybe

Two things: Your upper respiratory symptoms are likely viral in cause and I don't know if you take other drugs or if you're allergic to anything or have other conditions but phenylephrine,an antihistamine, and dextromethorphan would help with your URI symptoms as well as rest and lots of water and nasal saline rinses,a neti pot,and/or salt water gargles. It sounds like you got burned from the bed. Cool water. ...Read more

Just got my MRI report. It says multiple (greater than 25) small abnormal T2/flair signal throughout the periventricular deep and subcortical whitemat?

There are a: number of causes of white matter lesions, impossible to make a determination based solely on the fact that they are there. Your doctor needs to correlate the size/distribution/number of lesions in the context of your clinical picture. Various possibilities include demyelinating processes(e.g. MS), vasculitides, and inflammatory/infectious processes(e.g. Lyme disease). ...Read more

Radiologist: In these situations I feel the best practice is for your primary care physician or neurologist to review the images with the radiologist who interpreted the studies and then discuss their findings and suggestions for any further investigation or referral to other specialists with you. If you're still not satisfied with their explanation, bring the films to another radiologist for a second opinion ...Read more

My neuro said my brain MRI shows unidentified white matter and little inflammation.I have sjögren's .He said don't worry.Should i ? What next?

Not to worry: It sounds like a part of the report is missing. In identified white matter what? Most white matter signal findings in young patients may be related to blood vessels. Small blood vessels and the space around them can have signal. I would ask for a better explanation . Still if only blood vessel spaces dot worry. Still, it also depends on why you had the study in the first place. ...Read more

Randmly smelling (ashtray), slight dizziness(like cross eyed), slight pressure no pain on sides head.1 ENT say ct scan fr brain.2 ENT Ct scan fr sinus?

Both: each of those studies cover a different part of the part of the brain and sinuses that are responsible for smell. The radiologist should be able to Taylor the study as needed. But sinus CT cannot visualize the entire brain to make sure nothing is abnormal there ...Read more
