Is an open mri/mra with contrast as good as a closed one?

Is an open mri/mra with contrast as good as a closed one?

Generally no: Better if claustrophobic only advantage. Closed generally higher resolution also depends on magnet size. ...Read more

Liver (Definition)

This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more

What does " mild cardia megally is noted." means in otherwise a normal "mra chest w/wo contrast"report, in a male adult who exercise aerobically a lot?

What does " mild cardia megally is noted." means in otherwise a normal "mra chest w/wo contrast"report, in a male adult who exercise aerobically a lot?

Increased size: Cardiomegaly refers to increased heart size, so the report is saying that your heart is mildly increased in size, which may not mean anything bad at all. Your physician will need to assess your overall clinical findings to decide whether that one finding is of any concern. ...Read more

I was wondering is gadolinium contrast necessary for a brain mra?

I was wondering is gadolinium contrast necessary for a brain mra?

Usually it: Improves diagnostic accuracy and has fewer "allergies" than iodinated contrast. If i were getting a head mr, i'd for sure take it. ...Read more

Prone to allergic reactions to meds. Having an mra w/contrast soon. Never had bad reaction from MRI contrasts before, but more allergies now. Concern?

Gadolinium contrast: Allergy is very rare: according to this, http://www.Medicalnewstoday.Com/releases/92774.Php there were 54 reactions to over 78000 injections reported, almost all mild. ...Read more

Vl carotid bilat post TIA found:l internal carotid stenosis 50-79% by velocity. F/u with neck contrast mra, shows nothing normal study! how can it be?

Vl carotid bilat post TIA found:l internal carotid stenosis 50-79% by velocity. F/u with neck contrast mra, shows nothing normal study! how can it be?

Velocity accurate: Most likely accurate ultrasound. Repeat at 6 months. Unlikely a dissection with resolution- but possible. Or increased flow after tia? Would be unusual. Mra has value but some limitations of stenosis measurements. ...Read more

What's more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast coratid mra?

What's more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast coratid mra?

Both good: Ultrasound is a good screening test. Can give idea about plaque make up. Mra shows flow but can overestimate amount of stenosis. Cta best if ultrasound not normal. ...Read more

What is more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast carotid mra?

What is more accurate, a color carotid doppler ultrasound or a contrast carotid mra?

Carotid: A carotid doppler is a good screening procedure. A mra or cta of the carotids is more accurate but not the way to screen patients. ...Read more

Do most joint mra's include steroid shots as well (since they are already injecting contrast in the joint)? I know a lot depends on dr order.

Do most joint mra's include steroid shots as well (since they are already injecting contrast in the joint)? I know a lot depends on dr order.

May be: While it is reasonable to inject steroid at the time of an arthrogram procedure, this is not commonly done. This practice varies at different hospitals/institutions. ...Read more

If a person had a normal with and without contrast 1.5 tesla mra, should he do 3.0 tesla mra to be sur that 1 to 2 mm cerebral aneurysm was not mised?

If a person had a normal with and without contrast 1.5 tesla mra, should he do 3.0 tesla mra to be sur that 1 to 2 mm cerebral aneurysm was not mised?

Not necessarily: MRA's ability to detect a 1-2 mm aneurysm depends on contrast vs. TOF technique, number of phase-encoded steps, and acquisition parameters. Field strength is another factor, but the data are equivocal for studies of coiled cerebral aneurysms (limited for de novo detection). Hi. Had MRa scan of neck done & was given IV contrast, during ..felt cold(usual) then neck felt weird , tight a bit. uncomfortable..was this anxiety or was I allergic to contrast? Should I see someone

Hi. Had MRa scan of neck done & was given IV contrast, during ..felt cold(usual) then neck felt weird , tight a bit. uncomfortable..was this anxiety or was I allergic to contrast? Should I see someone

Likely anxiety : MRI scanners need to be kept cold to work properly and mild anxiety to being within the scanner tube is very common. What you describe is not an allergic reaction to the contrast (which is also very rare with MRI gadolinium contrast). ...Read more

I'm getting an mri, mra, and mrv of my brain with contrast. Can i wear my contacts during the scan?

I'm getting an mri, mra, and mrv of my brain with contrast. Can i wear my contacts during the scan?

Yes: There is usually a screening form that you will need to complete, it asks if you have metal or metal fragments within your body, have a cochlear implant, heart valve or aneurysm clip, or if you are claustraphobic. The form wants to provide information on objects that could be adversely affected by a strong magnet. ...Read more

Is an open mra and mrv good enough to diagnose any abnormalities with the blood vessels even without contrast?

Is an open mra and mrv good enough to diagnose any abnormalities with the blood vessels even without contrast?

For the most part: Both mr angiography (mra) and mr venography (mrv) of the head are usually performed without contrast dye using a special technique that can "see" flowing blood without IV contrast. Open mri? Depends on the machine. Some newer MRI scanners have larger openings without being "open, " and these strike better balance between patient comfort and image quality. May still miss small vascular lesions. ...Read more
