Knee pain on/off 7 yrs. Around kneecaps. Both legs, not always same time. Can’t link to weather, activity, temp. Heat=more discomfort. Knees crack.
Patellofemoral: This sounds like patellofemoral syndrome, which refers to pain behind the kneecaps, in the patellofemoral joints. Early degeneration and cartilage wear can cause these symptoms (including cracking/grinding), as can misalignment of the patella. For many patients, simple physical therapy to strengthen the medial quads can help. See a physician if symptoms persist. ...Read more

Workup and PT: There is no good evidence that JHS in and of itself will cause such significant pain. With that said, many people with JHS do present with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, fatigue and even autonomic symptoms such as you're describing. Evaluation by a rheumatologist, neurologist and physiatrist could be helpful in sorting out your symptoms, ruling out other problems, and providing appropriate treatment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Mix with a small amount of water, and chase it with something else to kill the taste. Major adverse effect is that you will "off-gas" the DMSO in your breath and sweat. ...Read more
