Mucus on stool: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, & even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum. At the very least stool studies & probably a sigmoidoscopy should be considered, but a more extensive evaluation may be warranted. ...Read more

Hi, I recently saw a lump of mucus in my stool but the mucus had a small black bug in it (moving) should I be worried?

No worries: Hi
I don't think you need to worry about bugs living in your intestinal tract. If the bug was alive and moving around, I would suspect that it got in there from the bathroom or around the cracks of the toilet seat. Insects are not known to be able to live and breed inside the human digestive tract. Hope this helps ...Read more

I have very slow moving bowel and I have to take something to get movement so I can go. The stool is very long and soft when I do go, about once a week. Why can't I go more frequently?

Hard to say: Constipation (going <3 x week or with difficulty) has many causes, with diet and other medications you take playing a significant role in why you go so seldom. Discussing your medications with your doctor may help eliminate some of their side effects, boosting your fiber content and a thorough medical evaluation for things like low thyroid may shed some light as well. ...Read more

Bowel change: Since this is a change in your usual bowel pattern, it shouldn't be ignored and a colonoscopy may be in order. Your stools suggest recent constipation and if increasing fluid intake and fiber or Metamucil in your daily diet doesn't get you back to normal regularity, it's important to be evaluated by a gastroenterologist. If you haven't had a screening colonoscopy, this is a good time to get one. ...Read more

What is s safe amount of time without moving your bowels. I have actually gone 6 to 7 days. I drink alot of water and take laxatives and stool softners.

That's too long...: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequent than once every 3-4 days. If fewer, rule out metabolic causes (e.g. low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology, extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). Get eval. ...Read more

Stools: These are probable undigested or partially digested food fragments. If you continue to have mucous and loose watery stools it would be a good idea to see a doctor and submit to a stool exam along with providing a full detailed history and an exam of yourself. Fell down stairs last week. Since, having strange moving sensations inside of belly or back. Constant. No pain. Doesn't feel like stool movements.

Call dr.: May be gas moving through your colon and intestines. Fortunately, it is probably not internal bleeding which would have manifested itself before a week after your fall. If you think you may be pregnant, best to check your first AM urine a week after your last period. When in doubt, call your doctor's answering service and see your doctor when available. Probably not emergent right now. ...Read more
