Yes need to follow: B"sd
both levels are normal, but should continue to monitor, also would check after meals and have a HgbA1c done.
You might also want to review your weight, diet and exercise situation. Take into consideration family history. It is best to control diabetes while it is still pre-diabetes and prevent or slow the onset of diabetes. Happy to discuss details. ...Read more

Blood Sugar (Definition)

The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more

What is a normal fasting glucose am reading? I've read anywhere from 72-108 and 100 and below. I'm diabetic so I like to test in the am once a month.

A1c better: It is good that you are testing your control of diabetes. Normal fasting blood sugar is less than 100, however for long term control of diabetes, testing for hemoglobin A1c every 3-4 months is better and you should aim for A1c level of less than 7.0 ...Read more

Recent blood test showed fasting glucose reading of 102 mg/dl. I'm not overweight and exercise regularly.?

Ideal: Ideal is 100 or less. A more adequate test is the hemoglobin a1 c test; it represents your average blood sugar over the past 2-3 months. An ideal a1c is 5.5 or lower. Above 6.0, one should consider a diabetic medication if diet is not helping to lower the blood sugar. ...Read more

Does a normal fasting glucose and normal A1c test rule out diabetes as a cause of neuropathy?

Does a normal fasting glucose and normal A1c test rule out diabetes as a cause of neuropathy?

Generally yes: Hi. Neuropathy is the most poorly understood diabetic complication, and I've seen weird cases. Nevertheless, if your fasting glucose and and A1c are normal, I'd say the chance your neuropathy is due to diabetes is very, very low. ...Read more

My last fasting glucose was 111 and has been running right close to that is that a bad # my doctor wants to do another test?

111: The first thing your doctor should do is measure A1c - a marker of blood glucose control. You should also check your blood sugar on alternate mornings before breakfast and at bedtime on the other days. It will give you and your doctor a more clear understanding of whether or not you have diabetes. ...Read more

I recently took an A1c test and blood glucose. The results from the A1c is 7% and fasting glucose 84. Would I be considered a diabetic?

Need more tests: A1c of 7 is in the diabetes range but you can't make the diagnosis on one number. I recommend repeating the tests to confirm. Good luck. ...Read more

While fasting for fasting glucose test can I eat foods with a zero glycemic index (eggs, steak with no sauce, etc)? I don't see why not.

Had blood tests done, fasting glucose showed 90 and last month it was only 79.I started taking l-glutamine, is it the cause? No symptoms. Worried. Is 90ok?

Had blood tests done, fasting glucose showed 90 and last month it was only 79.I started taking l-glutamine, is it the cause? No symptoms. Worried. Is 90ok?

Normal: This is normal biologic variation. Glutamine/L-glutamine has been promoted as helpful in muscle building, but there is little evidence of this in healthy individuals. It does seem to be helpful in disease states such as cancer treatment, wound healing and AIDs. Both of the fasting glucose results you report are normal; the third one could be 90... or 80, etc. Normal is <100 mg/dl. ...Read more

Does a fasting glucose blood test rule out diabetes type 1 and 2?

Does a fasting glucose blood test rule out diabetes type 1 and 2?

If it's normal: It rules out type 1 diabetes, but you can still have "mild" type 2 diabetes in the early stages with after meal glucoses being elevated but normal fasting. It's called impaired glucose tolerance. Check an hba1c test for more information. ...Read more

Recently bloodwork for fasting insulin. How is this different that a glucose tolerance test or a fasting glucose test?

Recently bloodwork for fasting insulin. How is this different that a glucose tolerance test or a fasting glucose test?

Different tests: Insulin & glucose are 2 different ways to measure diabetes. Insulin is produced by pancreas to keep sugars under control. We measure glucose to see how well sugars are controlled. Think of glucose as speedometer & Insulin as tachometer (hgba1c is avg trip speed - ask a car nut if this doesn't make sense). Glucose tolerance test requires drinking sugar whereas other 2 tests don't. ...Read more

My fasting glucose was 95 and my job A1c was 4.8. Does this sound normal? If I were diabetic would these tests show something?

Normal: Your fasting bg is on the normal (non diabetic) range as is your a1c. You do not appear to have diabetes with these results, and if you were diabetic, they would usually be expected to be higher. Good job and best wishes. ...Read more

My daughters sugar levelswere 8.1 and she went for a fasting glucose test the following day but I was told it will be following day results in but 2nd day still waiting is this normal or is something wrong. She is a bedwetter and overweight with asthma.?

Hemoglobin A1C: If the test you are referring to is your daughter's hemoglobin a1c level, then your daughter is part of the growing epidemic of children with diabetes. Her asthma may well be due to her obesity. First, you need the results of more tests, because one single test could have an erroneous result. Either way, if your daughter is overweight, the sooner you and she get educated about food the better. ...Read more

Non-fasting glucose blood sugar test and had a symptom of diabetes. Doctor tells me that my blood work is fine. So should is that reliable? Or do I need another work up?

Realize that: Many things can cause symptoms of diabetes. Not sure exactly which symptoms you are referring, but the most classic are polyuria (urinating too much), nocturia (urinating in the middle of the night) and polydipsia (drinking too much water). Ideally you would have either a hemoglobin A1C, or "fasting" plasma glucose, or an oral glucose tolerance test (less commonly done now). ...Read more

Adrenals: Shaking is low sugar your sugar runs slightly above 100 per hba1c 5.0 =100. So you need to bring down stress via supporting adrenals which can be helped via 5 factors - magnesium, b vitamins, water 1/2 of body weight in oz per day, sleep at least 6-8 hours at night, adaptogen like herbs like adhs (vasopressin) from biotics. Take adhs (vasopressin) 2 pills in morning recheck hba1c in 1 month to show progress. ...Read more

Should not: Unless specifically instructed to hold (/not take) your usual meds, should be ok to take. If you do not take the Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) all the time / every day, could just as well pick that am for a "med holiday." either should be fine. ...Read more
