Housemate,55, hit calf with bike pedal 4 days ago. Formed painful, hard lump, little bruising. Now ankle below is purple and puffy. Low income. Advise?

Dependent bruising.: When you injure the leg, the blood from the bruising can travel down the fascial plans and end up forming a bruise lower in the leg. A simple answer to this could be a support stocking or even an ace wrap. If he has pain in the calf or what feels like a hard chord in the calf he should be checked out for the possibility of a blood clot. ...Read more

Is it safe to wear a 18mmhg compression stockings while recovering from leg injury caused by Running? Like swollen muscles & visible spider veins?

Should be: Given your age, and your sex, arterial disease is unlikely. Also, this level of compression should not inhibit blood flow. I think you can safely use them. However, if it hurts to wear them, your toes turn blue or black, etc. Stop immediately. ...Read more

Hip joint of 1 leg painful n inflamed after riding bike. Electric shock sensation down leg when doing certain yoga poses. Why? Will celebrex (celecoxib) help?

Hip joint of 1 leg painful n inflamed after riding bike. Electric shock sensation down leg when doing certain yoga poses. Why? Will celebrex (celecoxib) help?

May be pinched nerve: Two strong possibilities: 1) pinched nerve of the the low back 2) hip osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis of the hip is a result of wear & tear. This can be diagnosed by x-ray. Celebrex (celecoxib) is an anti-inflammatory med & could help. The electric shock sensation could be a radiculopathy, aka "pinched nerve" in, or "sciatica." Celebrex (celecoxib) could help, as could physical therapy, or an epidural steroid injection. ...Read more

How to differentiate calf pain from overuse vs blood clot after knee arthroscopy? Calf hurts more than knee when weight bearing. Not red or warm.

How to differentiate calf pain from overuse vs blood clot after knee arthroscopy? Calf hurts more than knee when weight bearing. Not red or warm.

Be seen : Unfortunately, there is not a great way. Even a physical exam by a doctor was only about 50percent sensative and 50 percent specific in detecting a blood clot. So if you have calf pain/calf swelling after a knee scope you probably "need" a Doppler to rule out a blood clot. I would discuss directly with your doctor. ...Read more

History L4/L5 disc bulges. 2 lumbar punctures for meningitis, aggravated it. After road biking, bad tingling in both feet. Did biking injure me more?

If it is bothersome, give it a try but don't expect miracles. If it is Bn that long, they usually need surgery 2 remove the capsule it occupies, & drainage tubes may B needed.
