Maybe yes, maybe no.: Your pediatrician should have checked your child's hemoglobin at their 9 months checkup to see if child anemic (low iron usually the cause). If this was fine, it's okay to start transitioning to whole milk along with your nursing. No: The nutritional content of most milk substitutes is not in most cases sufficient for a baby. That includes almond, rice, and goats' milks. Even cows' milk can cause problems but mainly because it's actually too strong for babies and quickly lead to iron deficiency if taken in excess.
