Can tegretol or klonopin (clonazepam) cause suicidal ideation /just strange thoughts even at low doses?
Klonopin (clonazepam): especially can cause changes in mentation (it is a sedative). Tegretol, a non-habit-forming anti-epileptic is less likely to do this, but it does change brain function. Probably shouldn't. : I would not prescribe it for you given your past history with it. There are other options. Zyban (also known as bupropion) is a little less effective but would not be as likely to cause such problematic side effects. Our brains often take 3-6 weeks to heal from depression IF they are going to respond to the anti-depressant medication.
