Mono not specific: Monospot is not specific for EBV infection and may be positive due to other viral infections. Even if it is mono, there is no specific treatment for it and you need to wait out for the symptoms to subside. If you are want to be sure, repeat the EBV antibody test in two weeks. Common in mono: Infectious mononucleosis can cause low WBC. How important it is, and whether there might be another contributing cause, depend on other things, especially the differential count, i.e. the numbers of the various types of WBC.
