My sis step son calls me mom.At his moms full time she ignores him a lot should I stop him or just ignore it and <3 him don't want him to feel unloved?

It's OK: If this child feels that close bond to you enough to call you mom, please don't burst his bubble. He already is dealing with step and blended family situations and is likely feeling very insecure about who is who and who really loves him. I'd go so far as to tell him you just love when he calls you mom, and let him know your door is open for him to talk, confide and take comfort with any time. ...Read more

Why does labor take such a long time for first-time moms?

Why does labor take such a long time for first-time moms?

It does not always: Take a long time, I have had pts push the 1st baby out in 5-15 minutes while other women took 2 hours, once u have had a vag del if the 2nd baby is not any bigger it usually takes less time because the vaginal canal has been stretched out from the 1st delivery, but sometimes the baby can get stuck so your health care prof should be skilled enough to know that and when to do a section if necessary. ...Read more

They are bearable the epidural will put local anesthetic in the epidural space ousdside the spine and it will greatly reduce the pain. The baby gets very little if any medication. It can also be used in the event you need a c section so you will be awake but without pain ...Read more

What is the longest that a first time mom ca expect to push for? 2, 3, 4, or 5 hrs? Or no time limit?

Birthing Baby: I am sure your prenatal book that you have been reading during your pregnancy talks about this. But, there is absolutely no way to give you any valid or verifiable answer. My experience is that women are in general similar to their mothers enough that this can be a guide on what to expect. But, each pregnancy is different. Your ob/gyn will be able to assist you once you are in labor. ...Read more

What is the percentage of first time moms (age 28) miscarriages? I was told only 20% of 1st time moms carry to term, 80 % miscarry...

You : You have the statistic backwards. The miscarriage rate for first time moms is about 12-15% and thus 85-88% deliver. Now the risk of miscarriage goes up with age and older moms have higher risks. Since you are only 28 (peak age for fertility), you should do well. If you have a miscarriage then the risk for the second pregnancy to miscarry is up to 25-30%. About 1/500 couples have recurrent pregnancy loss and miscarry over and over. So, you should be reassured that you will have a great chance for a healthy pregnancy. Best wishes. ...Read more

Why does my mom get different readings.First time its 140 then comes to 120 in a gap of few seconds. She takes it in digital machines.

Why does my mom get different readings.First time its 140 then comes to 120 in a gap of few seconds. She takes it in digital machines.

Need to wait.: If someone repeatedly checks their blood pressure on the same arm two and three times successively, one would see that the numbers go down. This is not accurate, though, but more reflective of the repeated effect of the BP cuff on the vasculature. One must wait ten minutes before checking the BP again on the same arm. For quick repetition, check on the opposite arm. ...Read more

my mom, 69, was recently diagnosed with idc and was told it is stage 3. She has had mamograms every year and has been diligent about her health screenings. Is stage 3 advnaced and if so how can this be if this is the first time anything has eve

Idc: Stage 3 is not a very early stage, with significant involvement of the lymph nodes plus the size of the cancer. Depending on the biology of the cancer, a very agressive ca can grow very fast within short period of time. Also, mammo is not a perfect test. Its sensitivity and specificity are even lower when used in a dense breast.Combination of those two can explain a case like your mom, s. ...Read more

My mom is 68 & got paralysis attack for 2nd time. First time was at 57 yrs. Right side paralysed and she is not able to speak. Can this be cured?

Can improve: Aphasia with right sided paralysis is usually the result of a stroke on the left side of the brain. Stroke and resulting aphasia and paralysis can significantly improve. Most of the recovery occurs in the first 6 months after stroke but it may continue for a year and even more. Improvement occurs more in people, who also receive physical ; mental rehab.Mostly, complete cure is not possible. Thanks. ...Read more
