Promethazine : Promethazine is a drug that is used to manage common cold, allergic reactions and is sometimes combined with other drugs, such as dextromethorphan, to suppress cough (see the link below). It belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistaminics. Promethazine has many side effects and several important drug-drug interactions. One important side effect is drowsiness, which can become significant at higher doses. Operating machinery or driving may become dangerous while taking promethazine. Overdose of Promethazine could result in respiratory arrest and death. Other sedatives such as alcohol, narcotics, tricyclic antidepressants enhance the sedating properties of promethazine. Administration of Promethazine has been associated with reported cholestatic jaundice. Edema (swelling) has also been associated with promethazine. From your description it appears that you may be having potentially serious side effects of this medication. You should stop taking it and see a doctor. ...Read more
