Mixing Cough Syrup And Alcohol
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Did you take: Any other meds along with the cough syrup? Did you drink the night before? Otherwise I have no explanation as to why you tested positive.
Depends the amount: Usually one drink takes 1-2 hour to disappear. Therefore it should be ok after 4 hours with 2 drinks. However, there all kinds of cough syrups. Some have tylenol (acetaminophen) and both tylenol (acetaminophen) and alcohol may cause bad liver trouble. Obviously, it also depends the amount of cough syrup and the presence of any (undetected) liver disease.
Overdose on cough syrup or just alcohol poisoning? I keep hearing about kids overdosing on cough medicine...I thought it was all alcohol. How does this happen? Is it really alcohol poisoning or something else?
Doesn't sound good: Doesn't sound like a good combination of medications. Take medications only as prescribed.
What are the side effects of mixing cough medicine and alcohol? Especially if you use cough medicine to get high then drink to get drunk?
Misuse: Wow - this is a loaded one. Firstly - do not mess around with medication or chemicals to get a high - this is sick. Secondly - drinking to get drunk is a disease of addiction. Both practices are bad and means that treatment is needed. Never mix cough medicine with alcohol and never take one to get high and the other to get drunk.See 1 more doctor answer
Will codeine cough medicine that my dr. Prescribed me for my cold show up on a etg ua? If so how hi will the alcohol levels be?
Depends: Not all cough medications contain alcohol; there are some that specifically do not, and if you are being tested with etg or ets testing, you should use non-alcohol containing cough medicines. There is no way to know how high the etg level might be without knowing how much cough medicine you had and how much time between taking it and the test. Many consider etg too sensitive for legal purposes.
Flavoring: Milk makes mucus, so you may be defeating your own purpose by giving cough medicine with milk. I know cough medicine tastes bad so try some other flavoring or ask the pharmacist for help.
Cough: Maybe so, maybe not. Depends on the child, why he/she is coughing and the cough syrup. There are many illnesses that cause cough. Best to see your doctor about any significant cough so that the cause is found and proper medicine can be given. For minor coughs honey in hot herb tea is soothing for children over 1 year of age.See 1 more doctor answer
