Mixed flora: Hi Ashley. If you have "mixed flora" in the urine - even with leukocytes (or white cells) - it may mean that the specimen was not a "clean catch" specimen. Means contaminated: Urine specimen from the surrounding area around urethra (opening where the urine comes out from). No uti : These are the multiple natural and normal baceria that are present on the skin that show up in the urine culture in the absence of a single organism. Maybe, maybe not: Strep viridans is not a common cause of UTI but is often present in the genital area and easily contaminates voided urine. And real UTI usually has higher numbers. But if careful clean-catch urine specimens show signs of infection (increased WBC without epithelial cells) and had the same culture result, with no other bacteria, a trial of treatment might be warranted.
