Here are some ...: In the contest of this Q, Foley may imply taking urine speciment from Foley's catheter, which is the indwelling catheter used for someone unable to void - urinary retention. However, it is expected to see bacteria in the urine at a rate of 5-10% per day; so, in 2-4 wks, all patients with Foley's catheter to drain the urine out of bladder will expect to have bacteriuria no matter what... ...Read more
My urine test results said: not assessable bcause of growth of mixed bacterial flora...What does it mean? Do I have an infection?
Urine cultures: You would have to ask the lab what they mean, but usually this terminology applies to an organism not usually seen as a cause of UTI and may be a contaminant. Urine culture accuracy depends upon the way in which the specimen was collected (difficult in women), transported and cultured. Inaccuracies are common. Usually cultures are unnecessary and treatment is empirical. ...Read more

What does it mean when there is WBCs in my R/M urine test...but no bacterial growth after 24hour incubation in C/S test?
Maybe nothing: You should be evaluated for tuberculosis since you are in the Middle East. But I would recommend obtaining a Catheterized urine specimen. Doctor can recheck: A person who knows he has a urine infection can see his doctor to make sure he is getting the correct antibiotic, because some bacteria are resistant to certain antibiotics. After taking antibiotics, he can return to the lab to recheck his urine to make sure the treatment worked. Sometimes, the doctor will do further evaluations to see if there is a second medical problem causing the infection. ...Read more

Urine dipstick showed nitrites, put on ab's. 3 days later, called and told no growth in culture, stop ab's. How can I have nitrites but no uti?
Nitrites: While the presence of nitrites in urine usually signifies the presence of a urinary tract infection, it is possible that someone misread the strip. Another possibility is that the urine specimen stood too long and some bacterial contamination took place but the number of organisms was too small to make the culture results postive. The culture is the significant result. ...Read more

Urine culture was NEG but showed growth of Lactobacillus. Nurse said it was a germ and not the good kind like in yogurt. She said possibly from sex. She suggested Cipro (ciprofloxacin). Do you agree?
Urine culture: Would really need to see the results of the urinalysis, but from what you describe the Lactobacillus is likely to have been a vaginal contaminant, rather than a urinary tract pathogen. You need to have an assisted clean midstream catch urine for culture, along with a urinalysis. This does not sound, at least superficially, like you need antibiotics, but without further info, difficult to be sure. ...Read more
What does RbC 7mm3 and WBC 22mm3 in urine analysis for. 65 years old woman mean? Urine culture was done also,no growth .
Urinalysis: This probably means absolutely nothing, but the numbers and the way you express them suggests that you are not recording them correctly. Without knowing what your symptoms are or why the UA was done it is impossible to know what else you should do. Would also need to know how this was collected because in women results may be skewed by vaginal discharge contamination. ...Read more
