How can you miss a period have a negative pregnancy test then concieve few days later and be pregnant?

2 ships crossing...: It sounds like you were juuust pregnant - like maybe a few days - when you took the first pregnancy test; and then later, your pregnancy progressed enough to be detectable by the test. It isn't that you weren't pregnant. It was that you weren't pregnant enough for the test to see it yet. Read more

Wait: Sometimes your periods can be delayed due to fluctuations in hormones. If you don't have a period in a week, repeat the preg test then. You may have a delay or missed period without being pregnant.
It is not common but does happen

Mild cramps no period. Didn't have penetrative sex. Was on Dr. Steroid. Negative pregnancy test 3 days late. Is it ok to assume not pregnant? Why miss?

Mild cramps no period. Didn't have penetrative sex. Was on Dr. Steroid. Negative pregnancy test 3 days late. Is it ok to assume not pregnant? Why miss?

Repeat test: If you did the test correctly and it was negative at three days after missed period, you are unlikely to be pregnant. It would be prudent to repeat the test 4-5 days later unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD.
Practice safe sex.

Missed period 3 months negative pregnancy test, lose weight, not eating regular?

Late periods: It's hard to say why it happens, but sometimes we are just late for our period. Even if it's never happened to you before, it could be happening now. Things like medications, stress, travel, changes in your weight, can all cause a late period. If your pregnancy test is negative, I would see your gyn doc for a check up. S/he might order some hormone blood tests and maybe an ultrasound. Read more

A correctly done urine test will give a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (or when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon. Read more
