It can cause transient fever, tachycardia, nausea/vomiting and pain from the colicky contractions it induces. No long-term adverse effects are known. It can be safely used only in minimal doses under experienced physician supervision. If one takes it to cause abortion without success, the fetus can have moebius syndrome (facial paralysis).
