Is it possible to have one miscarried one identical twin but the other survived?

Loss of one twin: It is possible to have lost a twin and carry the other twin to viability. Identical twins can be carried in two amniotic bags or one. When there are two it is possible to have the lose of one and carry the other twin to viability

My cousin was told she miscarried one of her twins at 5wks, but the other survived and is growing. How is this possible with all the bleeding she had?

My cousin was told she miscarried one of her twins at 5wks, but the other survived and is growing. How is this possible with all the bleeding she had?

Not unheard of.: Most recent data suggest that many of us started our in utero lives with a co-twin that never survived to viability, or even detection by ultrasound. Losing a dichorionic twin and continuing the pregnancy with the survivor is actually a well-known outcome in multifetal pregnancies. The earlier the fetal loss the less severe the consequences to the survivor, because these insults are all/nothing.

At 9.5 weeks with twins, heartbeats were 167 and babies are 2.7cm & 3cm. At this point, what are the chances of miscarrying one or both twins?

Chances are lower: Obviously twins are a higher risk for complications than a single gestation but with 2 very healthy heartbeats you certainly can breathe somewhat easier. Your OB will go over with you risks of twins at the various gestational ages but I would try to relax at this point.

Want are chances for miscarriage of one baby with twins?

Want are chances for miscarriage of one baby with twins?

About 30%: 25-30% of twin pregnancies will reduce to one naturally. In addition there is a 5% risk of loss after 20 weeks. I know that is scary but keep in mind that a normal single pregnancy has about the same risk of miscarriage.

Hello.: Hello. There seems to be some variability to the statistics. With Clomid (clomiphene) there is reported to be a 5 to 12 percent chance of twins. With in vitro fertilization (ivf), the odds could increase to 20 to 40 percent, depending on the number of embryos used. However, before fooling around with mother nature, think about what will you will do if your become pregnant with triplets or quads. Take care.

Pregnancy: I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Unfortunately I cannot say if you were carrying twins- were you pregnant? (Presume yes). I recommend you see an obstetrician to get evaluated for reasons for miscarriages and see that your thyroid is well managed.

Are the chances of miscarriage still high in 2nd trimester with twins?

Are the chances of miscarriage still high in 2nd trimester with twins?

Twin Pregnancies: The twin miscarriage rate is 17-20% overall, but does become less frequent later in pregnancy. Nevertheless, as you already know, twin pregnancy is a high risk pregnancy, and should be under the close care of your OB provider.

Is it true that the chance of conceiving twins is higher after a recent miscarriage?

No: I've never hear that statistic before. Twins have a genetic susceptibility (meaning they run in families). Being older at conception (like late 30's) also increases chances. To my knowledge pregnancy after a miscarriage doesn't increase chance.

I got prg with twins and on us we saw 2 sac but 1 heartbeat. I'm bleeding slightly...no pain or cramp. Can it be the twin miscarrying? I must be 7 week

I got prg with twins and on us we saw 2 sac but 1 heartbeat. I'm bleeding slightly...no pain or cramp. Can it be the twin miscarrying? I must be 7 week

Yes: Bleeding in pregnancy can be a sign of a miscarriage but it can also be caused by other things. However, depending on how good the ultrasound equipment is, and how certain the gestational age, its not always possible to see a heartbeat at 7 weeks. Sometimes, it will be seen if you wait a week or two and and look again. Best wishes!
