Ok: Most ivf clinics only measure HCG levels approximately 9 days after a day 5 embryo transfer. However, some clinics feel that the combination of HCG levels and Progesterone levels have a more predictive value of a good pregnancy than HCG levels alone. Personally, we only measure hcg. In short, yes: Dropping HCG levels mean an abnormal pregnancy if they are measured during the early weeks of pregnancy, this does not hold true if measured later in pregnancy when levels can drop and be normal. Yes: I'm sorry, but miscarriage sounds like a strong possibility if the size of the embryo is smaller than how far along you think you are, and also if there's no heartbeat. Not sure: Hard to say what slow means. Did you have a d;c or miscarry naturally. The level should become zero in a week or two after a spontaneous miscarriage but it depends on how high the level was when it started. ...Read more
Possible Pregnancy: Whatever clots or specimen you had when you had the miscarriage should have been examined by the pathologist to determine the presence of embryonic or fetal parts because otherwise the HCG elevation means you still have the conceptus/embryonic/fetal parts inside you.
