Genes: I do not for one moment think you can blame the HIV meds alone. But both sustiva and azt (zidovudine) may have a role in the hypertriglyceridemia. They are not causing the sugar problem. Weight gain as s/e: Risperidal, (risperidone) Zyprexa and Seroquel can all cause weight gain and high blood sugar. That is why close medical supervision is important while taking any of them. Weight gain, if it occurs, is gradual and reversible if med is stopped. Check your weight regularly and tell prescribing doc if you have any unexplained weight gain. Not likely: Antipsychotics should be used w/ caution in people w/ heart disease as they may exacerbate preexisting conditions. However, i haven't heard of saphris (asenapine) ; seroquel directly causing diastolic heart failure.
