Comcermnng: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) and other agents used for constipation should not cause pencil thin stools. I am concerned that you are requiring daily constipation medications. You need to see a gastroenterologist who then may proceed with a colonoscopy to make sure you have nothing in your colon that is causing the thin stool and you then need to discuss the issue of constipation. Please proceed with the GI physician ...Read more
Can miralax (polyethylene glycol) change caliber of stool? Am being treated for constipation. Before miralax (polyethylene glycol) calibur was normal - with miralax (polyethylene glycol) stools are slow and thin.
Oh my...: Before you contemplate long term laxative use, seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). ...Read more
I've tried linzess trulance miralax psyllium and other fiber supplements diets my stool is still pencil thin. Is triphala safe?
Safe enough: Triphala is an herbal formula used in Aruvedic medicine often for bowel problems/relief of constipation. It consists of at least three plants; it is not clear what chemical is responsible for it's effects. I would be more skeptical that it would provide any benefit for you, if the other things you list have not, more than I would be worried it was unsafe. You could try it without expecting too much ...Read more
Is Miralax (polyethylene glycol) a laxative or stool softener? Addicting? How long to take to heal anal fissure?
Wetting agent: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is primarily a wetting agent, that holds on to water as it moves through your system and softens the stool. It is not addicting, but when you wean off the material, I would do so gradually. When your stool softens, you should empty more often, so the fissure is not pressured by a larger volume. This should allow healing within a week or two, but recurrence can occur if you return to old habits ...Read more

I'm having a lot of difficulty with bowel movements and was wondering how long it takes for this miralax (polyethylene glycol) to kick in and allow me to get a stool out?
It can be up to 12-24 hours : Male sure you are seeing your doctor on this. Most importantly if you have pain or not pooped in 2 days, you need to call your doctor now for stronger recommendations. Don't delay! ...Read more

X-ray showed that I was backed up with stool. Taken Miralax once a day for three days now with no result. Does that indicate something serious?
Fecal impaction.: It seems like you have a severe type of constipation called fecal impaction. 3 days of Miralax is insufficient. Continue using Miralax to soften stool "from above", but also consider consulting with a GI specialist to get a prescription for an enema ("from below"). You may also need a different laxative. A combination of approaches is needed when stool is impacted. TTYD or use Healthtap Prime. GL ...Read more

Tea can tighten: Tea is liquid-that can be good for constipation, but contains tannins which can aggravate it. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is a laxative, tasteless, can be in most liquids. I took miralax prep for colonoscopy tomorrow..also 4 stool softeners as directed along with the broth jello diet..started the cleanse at 4 p.m. still ?
May take awhile:
The bowel prep for a colonoscopy can be very challenging to take. Because the goal is to clear your colon of stool completely, the regimen is very aggressive and you may be having bowel movements almost continuously until it is just clear liquid coming out. Depending on the regimen, you may also experience residual cramping as the effects of the laxative wear off. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Does Polyethylene Glycol or also called miralax (polyethylene glycol) cause green sticky stools ? Please help
Not usually.: MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) does not usually cause green sticky stools. If anything, it usually causes watery stools that are the same color as the stool was prior to taking the medication. Green stools are not usually worrisome. Unless you see black tarry stool or signs of red blood, I would not worry about it. Good luck. ...Read more
