Mirena String Hanging Low
Had 1year mirena (levonorgestrel) checkup in january.Doc was very pleased with mirena (levonorgestrel).Tonight i felt the strings.Haven't felt strings before. Is my mirena (levonorgestrel) falling out?
The mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is sited abnormaly low being in lower uteirne segment extending towards the cervix.I have low lying iud.Do they have to remove or repla?
Replace IUD!: If the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is not near the uterine fundus, it will not obstruct the tubal ostia and may not work as intended. That means that you could get pregnant with the iud in situ, a very dangerous situation. Please talk to your gynecologist about replacing the iud under ultrasound guidance so that it is snug against the top of your uterus. Also check for uterine anomalies and consider paragard instead. ...Read more
Can mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD strings cause infections? An ovarian cyst formed for me and the mirena (levonorgestrel) string is caught in it! help!
Not really: Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud strings do not cause infection, nor have anything to do with an ovarian cyst. The ovary will creat a so called cyst for the ovulation process. Iud's do not cause infection , but sexual behavior can put you at risk for infection regardless of the prescence of iud. ...Read more

Most likely: While the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is in it causes the periods to be much lighter than what is normal for you. Once the Mirena (levonorgestrel) is removed then the periods will go back to whatever is your normal. Also in your late 40's it is common to have heavy and irregular periods as you get closer to menopause. Many women will use Mirena (levonorgestrel) at that age just to get the periods to be lighter. ...Read more
On 8/1/13, I had robotic myo. converted to exp lap, cystoscopy and IUD removed due to a huge 2lbs. Subser. fibroid w/stalk. Can I still get pregnant?
Probably: If the fibroid was subserosal, that is good since most of those can be removed with out entering the uterine cavity. However any surgery, especially abdominal, can cause scar tissue which can interfere with getting pregnant. I am not sure if you want to be pregant in which case I would see a gyne, or if you don't want to be pregnant. In the latter case, I think you still need to use birth control. ...Read more
Do copper IUD strings kind of shrivel after being in you? A clear plastic string kind of "curly" looking just came out of my vagina.
Is it normal to bleed heavy on my periods [every period] with the mirena (levonorgestrel)? Have had the mirena (levonorgestrel) 2 1/2 years?
Not typical : One of the nice side effects of Mirena (levonorgestrel) is light or no periods. Up to 50% of users have no periods within 2 years. If your periods are heavy then the iud location needs to be checked by ultrasound. I have seen them drop down into the cervix and cause heavy bleeding. If the location is normal then this is probably going to be your pattern. You can stick with it or try another method for birth contrl. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Double therapy?: Your brief history sound a bit strange unless something is missed there.
