Do you know of side effects of using mirena (levonorgestrel)?

Minimal: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud is popular and an excellent form of birth control in the appropriately selected patient. Most women's concerns are related to spotting during the first few months, and mild cramping. These both go away in almost all women. Talk to your ob/gyn!

Does the MIRENA (levonorgestrel) make you gain weight? What are some weight-related side effects?

What do you suggest if I'm just wondering if anyone has had a skyla IUD or a mirena (levonorgestrel) and if so what side effects?

Talk to doctor: Women experience the Mirena (levonorgestrel) in different ways. Most women don't have any ill effects, and just enjoy the decreased bleeding. Many women will stop having periods, some have lighter periods, and some have irregular bleeding. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) is not associated with weight gain, breast tenderness, headaches, etc. You should discuss this with your doctor.

I've had a mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and have had it for 4 years now. Are there side effects from the hormones released from the iud?

Very few: There have been patient reports of mood shifts, and wt gain but these are rare reports. The vast majority of patients have had no adverse reports. The more serious concerns, like uterine perforation, usually happen before 4 years and are also unusual.

I am on the mirena, (levonorgestrel) and I just removed my tampon and the coil has come out with it? Its that ok or any side effects? Do I need to see the doc?

See your doctor: Mirena (levonorgestrel) doesn't really have a coil like the copper t380 iud. However, the tampon may have dislodged the iud. Ultrasound should be able to tell. Remember that you probably aren't birth control protected right now.

Mirena (levonorgestrel) side effects? What are they? When should call doctor?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) side effects? What are they? When should call doctor?

Not many: The most common side effects would be breakthrough bleeding the first 3 months. This is true for almost all IUDs and hormonal systems tho. Also, cramping. This subsides for the majority after a week or so. It is very controllable with NSAIDs like ibuprofen. Complications include perforation, infection, embedding in uterus, falling out. All of those are rare. I place MANY. My Pts like them.

Is mirena (levonorgestrel) effective for period control? Any side effects? Does it affect sex life?

Is mirena (levonorgestrel) effective for period control? Any side effects? Does it affect sex life?

Yes, no, no: Cycles much lighter and 35% chance of no cyles (still safe). Very minimal reports of adverse effects, like wt gain or mood changes. These are probable more related to stopping the previous form of contraception. Only effect on sex is also rare, and that is real or percieved event of partner feeling the string. This can be treated by the person who placed it.

Having side effects from mirena (levonorgestrel).I have lots of cysts growing on my ovary. Ob wants to use implanon can I use a 20mg topical progesterone instead?

Having side effects from mirena (levonorgestrel).I have lots of cysts growing on my ovary. Ob wants to use implanon can I use a 20mg topical progesterone instead?

Confusing: Progestin iud like Mirena (levonorgestrel) does not 'cause' ovarian cysts. Normal ovaries always have follicular and/or luteal cysts, are you certain your cysts are not normal? Finally 'no, ' topical progsterone cream will not impact ovarian cysts or ovarian cycle at all.
