Unusual choice: Generally an iud is not placed after an endomtrial ablation; some pain after either can occur so it may be difficult to assess but endure its not a UTI or that the hardware isnt infected after being placed into the post surgical uterus. That is low probaility but this has not been sutidied and the uterus will scar, hopfully not affecting the iud long term; it is likely trnasient but watch fr fever. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Since getting mirena (levonorgestrel) 3months ago, started having heavy period from yesterday. Can gp use external ultrasound to see if mirena (levonorgestrel) is still in place?
My obgyn has recommended mirena (levonorgestrel) to assist with heavy / irregular and painful periods and endometriosis. Is this safe?

25 y.o., have mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and on depo. to control extremely heavy periods and PCOS...but I'm still getting cysts. what is wrong with me? nothing works.
Is it normal to bleed heavy on my periods [every period] with the mirena (levonorgestrel)? Have had the mirena (levonorgestrel) 2 1/2 years?

If your periods are heavy then the iud location needs to be checked by ultrasound. I have seen them drop down into the cervix and cause heavy bleeding. If the location is normal then this is probably going to be your pattern. You can stick with it or try another method for birth contrl. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Doctor discussed options for heavy period relief due to uterine fibroid. Leaning toward NovaSure over Mirena (levonorgestrel). Is this procedure safe and effective?
Where's the fibroid?: Both options are good for controlling heavy bleeding. You need a tissue diagnosis first prior to either. A mucosal fibroid (one in the uterine cavity may need to be resected first (look up Myosure procedure). An endometrial ablation is otherwise very effective and choices exist (Freezing, thermal balloon, radio frequency, microwave, laser, hydrothermal, electrotherapy, etc). Your Doc will pick. ...Read more
