Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD for 1 1/2 years. Periods never been, very regular. Typical for two month teo week duration each. No period soar nipples the last week?
Confirm IUD in place: Within the first 6 months, ~95% of Mirena (levonorgestrel) users will note a decrease in their duration and/or amount of menstrual blood flow, and many will even stop getting their period (which is normal), however, some women may continue to have irregular periods like yours. Since your periods are lasting two weeks, see your dr to check that iud strings are visible ; same length. If not they may order an u/s. ...Read more
Could I be pregnant or have an infection? I squeezed my nipples and hard white stuff come out of them. I haven't nursed in over 2 years and I'm on the mirena (levonorgestrel).
Nipple discharge can be due to a variety of things. Most commonly discharge can be:
due to hormonal changes (you are on Mirena (levonorgestrel) which is coated with hormone)
prolactinoma-have your doctor check a prolactin level
infectious cause-unlikely, most commonly associated with fever, and pain
As you see the possibilitis are many. Schedule an exam with your primary care provider or gynecologist for a complete work up of this problem. ...Read more

I have had IUD mirena (levonorgestrel) for 4 years never had these symptoms before nipples burning and sore around and boob is heavy?
Am 34, baby 6mths ago. Mirena (levonorgestrel) 3mth ago. Noticed occasional clear discharge from nipple, mainly when squeezed quite hard. No lumps or pain. Is this bad?
Milk: If you had a baby 6 months ago and are now able to see fluid from the nipple the most likely explanation is milk. After having a baby it quite normal to express milk from the nipple even if not breastfeeding. This is especially true if you are squeezing the nipple. If you are concerned schedule a visit for confirmation ...Read more
Possibility of mirena being defective? Releasing too much progesterone? On 3rd (1st fully expelled, 2nd partially expelled) no s/e on the 1st two - now severe pain (Admitted to hospital) post insertion which continues 2.5 weeks & nipple sensitivity
There are really: 2 issues here. While I can't say for sure if it's releasing levonorgestrel too quickly, I can say that your uterus doesn't like having it there. There are a couple of contraceptives that are very effective but aren't inserted into the uterus: Deep-provera shots given every 3 months; implanted devices like Implanon and Nexplanon are 3 that come to mind. Discuss this w/ your gyn! ...Read more
I have Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD & just finished 2 1/2 month long period. Lately I have random shooting vaginal pain. My nipples are also sore. What's wrong with me?
Should not be: Pregnant. You could take a pregnancy test if worried. The Mirena (levonorgestrel) puts out Progesterone to counteract the estrogen you make. Your symptoms come from the estrogen. Once you stop bleeding on theorems you usually are ok and just might have breakthrough spotting. ...Read more
Clear to milky Discharge from nipple when squeezed. Doesn't always happen. Have mirena (levonorgestrel). Baby 6mth ago. Period due in 10days. No lumps. Is it bad?
Probably "not bad": You probably have no cause for alarm if the discharge remains clear to milky, is still periodic or occasional and there is "no lump". Consider reducing the frequency of "nipple stimulations" and requesting a clinical breast exam plus a blood prolactin test if you remain concerned in another 6 to 9 months. ...Read more
Have Mirena, (levonorgestrel) not pregnant but no period since insertion about a year ago. Last 2 weeks have had sensitive and erect nipples with no discharge. Help?
Could be hormonal: Probably normal but monitor. IUDs have the lowest failure rate of the reversible contraception options, but it is not zero. Breasts are very sensitive to any hormonal changes and even some medications. You can still have hormonal fluctuations with a Mirena (levonorgestrel) iIf pregnancy test is negative, just monitor the sensitivity, watch for signs of infection or skin irritation, and be seen if it gets worse. ...Read more
Mirena (levonorgestrel) was removed a month ago. I've been bleeding for 3 days now but have nipple discharge. Negative pregnancy test though. What's going on?
Nipple discharge.: Depends on the color of the discharge. If milky it could be your prolactin level is elevated. If green or black its more likely a benign breast issue not related to the mirena (levonorgestrel). If bloody its more concerning. I would suggest you see your GYN for a serum pregnancy test, thyroid test and prolactin level and have them confirm the type of nipple discharge ...Read more
Are menstrual cramps and sore nipples normal with the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD? I do not get a period anymore, so this is unusual.
No it is not unusual: This is not unusual to have the symptoms described especially if you are currently using a hormonal contraceptive devise, you are not getting periods is due to the hormones present in Mirena (levonorgestrel) ; which is expected. The cramps if they are minimal usually subside with time however if you start developing worsened pain and discharge than please be seen as it may be due to an infection of the uterus ...Read more
I am on mirena (levonorgestrel) but my boobs and nipples are sore. I have had tissue like blood in the bathroom and a pinkish clot on top on tampon. Miscarriage?
No: Women on Mirena (levonorgestrel) are still producing hormones from the ovary. When you are premenstrual your ovary will produce a hormone called progesterone. Progesterone will can make your breast and nipple sore. Ovulation may be associated with a little bleeding. If you have had the Mirena (levonorgestrel) for sometime and you have been checked after the insertion, you are fine. No harm in doing a pregnancy test. ...Read more

Left breast nipple swollen &tender for a few days. Breast is not sore, not preg, never given birth, no puss. 4th month on Mirena (levonorgestrel). What's going on?
Nipple tenderness: Nipple tenderness is not caused by Mirena (levonorgestrel). If only the nipple is sore on one breast and the breasts are not sore then it is likely a local traumatic event and not hormonal. Ill fitting bras, new exercise patterns, nipple trauma rubbing against close, weight changes are a few common caused. ...Read more

Haven't had period in two years with mirena (levonorgestrel) but recently have had spotting cramping and tender breast and nipples also I've noticed white dots on nip?
Is one sided white nipple discharge normal when squeezed? I am 31 mother of two. My youngest is 9. I have been on nuva ring for at least 8 yrs. I recently switched to the mirena 2 months ago. I have recently noticed a white discharge from my right breast
A breast discharge should always be evaluated. A complete breast exam of both breasts should be performed including an attempt to express the discharge at the time of the exam. If a discharge is expressed, it should be tested for the presence of blood (guiac test) and examined under the microscope for evidence that the discharge is milk (fat globules). If there is no blood and it is milk, this is reassuring against a more serious problem but you should have blood tested for elevation in a hormone called prolactin.
If the discharge is positive for blood this is a concerning sign and a referral to a breast specialist is warranted. If the discharge is free of blood but is only on one side, further evaluation or referral to a breast specialist may be warranted. Usually a breast discharge that is negative for the above tests and is bilateral can be watched.
Again, the concerning signs of a discharge are when it occurs distant in time from when a person was nursing, happens spontaneously, comes from just one duct, happens on only one side, is persistent, and is bloody. If you have these signs, this should be evaluated by all available means including a referral to a breast specialist for physical examination, mammography, and possibly biopsy or surgical evaluation.
It is unlikely that your iud is causing this discharge.
I would contact your doctor and ask for more details on what was found at the time of your evaluation. ...Read more

Can do preg. Test: A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. ...Read more
I have the mirena (levonorgestrel) for almost three weeks and am bleeding ALOT I leak through my super tampons is this normal?
Yes: Some women do have more bleeding after Mirena (levonorgestrel) placement. I tell my patients, it can take awhile for the Mirena (levonorgestrel) to get settled in the uterus. If the bleeding persists after a few weeks, for instance, more than 3, see your doctor. It could be in the wrong location? Or there is a lot of lining that is shedding. Your doctor may chose to remove and replace, or give you a pill to help bleeding ...Read more
Can I get pregnant with a mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD in if I haven't got it checked to see if its in place? Breasts hurt and leaking clear stuff.
Small chance: It is important to check for iud strings every so often to be sure iud is in place. Since you don't know if it is and you're concerned about pregnancy check a pregnancy test. If the iud is in place chance of pregnancy is quite low. ...Read more

Watch: If you start to bleed heavily and it doesn't stop then go to the ER. Too much is typically considered soaking through more than a maxi pad an hour for 2 hours, or if associated with dizziness, shortness of breath, other symptoms.
