Is my mirena (levonorgestrel) effective right up to the 5 yr mark?

Is my mirena (levonorgestrel) effective right up to the 5 yr mark?

Yes: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is designed to give effective birth control for 5 years and then needs to be replaced. If you are late by a few days to a few weeks you should be covered but don't push it if pregnancy is unwanted. To be absolutely safe use condoms for protection after the expiration date. Good luck. ...Read more

If mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD causes you to not be able to have kids in the future why do doctors prescribe it?

If mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD causes you to not be able to have kids in the future why do doctors prescribe it?

That's not it: That is not how iud's work - they absolutely are not designed to cause infertility. Can one still get infected and potentially cause infertility? Yes - your doc should have told you that. But with the mirena, (levonorgestrel) it is vanishingly unlikely. Bottom line - my daughter has one. I trust Mirena (levonorgestrel) without reservation. ...Read more

I used Mirena (levonorgestrel) from 11/18- 5/5 a week before the removal I was put on Nuvaring I used it for a week & now I want a baby how long until we conceive?

I used Mirena (levonorgestrel) from 11/18- 5/5 a week before the removal I was put on Nuvaring I used it for a week & now I want a baby how long until we conceive?

Right away: Using the Nuva Ring does not prolong your chances of becoming pregnant. It might take a cycle or two, but you should be able to conceive (chances with any cycle are around 20-25%) next cycle. The only birth control that prolongs infertility is the Depot Provera (medroxyprogesterone) shot. All the others don't prolong infertility. ...Read more

Kicking sensation in mid-upper abdomen for a week. I have Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and am nursing an 8-month old. HPT's come out negative. Could I be pregnant?

Kicking sensation in mid-upper abdomen for a week. I have Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD and am nursing an 8-month old. HPT's come out negative. Could I be pregnant?

Unlikely: You have at least two factors that should be protecting you from pregnancy: Mirena (levonorgestrel) and nursing. The HPTs are reassuring. Sounds like an abdominal wall muscle twitch to give you this kicking sensation. Make sure that you are staying hydrated, check to see if the mirena (levonorgestrel) is still in place (at the time of placement you should have been told how to do that). Remem how many weeks b4 your felt kick b4? ...Read more

Is it safe to remove mirena (levonorgestrel) yourself?

Unsafe, let MD inspct: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is one of the BEST forms of birth control available, why remove it? If it's causing pain or some problems it's still better to see the doctor for it to be removed to ensure that there weren't any defects of the IUD and to see if you wanted something else for birth control. Don't remove it yourself b/c you may end up causing unnecessary vaginal abrasions. ...Read more
