Diet: If you have had a full work-up for your constipation, including lab tests. And you've reviewed any medications that might cause constipation, like blood pressure medications, then I would suggest you work on diet. Some people need a lot of fiber. So lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, the yogurt activia contains a probiotic that helps with constipation. ...Read more

Does miralax (polyethylene glycol) cause weight gain?

Sorry, but no...: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is a lavage agent--the more you take the better the "clean out." By virtue of it helping to eliminate stool volume, one would anticipate weight loss with its use. ...Read more

Hi my daughter is 3 months old and weights about 13 pounds. She's keeps getting constipated and the doctor suggested miralax (polyethylene glycol). What dosage do I give?

Constipation: Is your little one drinking formula or breast milk? Infants fed breast milk sometimes go many days without a bowel movement. If stools are not firm and there is no significant straining, it is usually safe to watch & wait up to one week. I am not aware of recommended dosage guidelines for Miralax (polyethylene glycol) in a young infant. Other options: prune or pear juice, mineral oil or glycerin suppositories. ...Read more

Can I take 5 doses of Miralax if I am severely constipated?

Can I take 5 doses of Miralax if I am severely constipated?

Dose-dependent drug: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full & bloated. We can't tell from your question if this is a one-time problem or a recurrent and progressive one. Also, we don't know if you're blocked, if your gut is sluggish, or your rectum works correctly. Consult your doc. ...Read more

Can I still have Miralax as a prescription medication or is it only over the counter now?

Hard to say: This is something specific to your health care plan. Rule changes by the IRS removed over the counter products from those available as deductible on most HSA plans. I am having issues with constipation cause by medicine Topomax 100mg and Neurotryptaline 10mg. May I use miralax twice in one day?

Dose-dependent: The more MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) you take the faster it works. As a once over-the-counter dosed laxative you may not see results for 3-4 days, but as a multi-dosed colonoscopy preparation (when used under doctor's advice) expect laxation within hours. As with any laxative however understand its mechanism of action, its risks, treatment goals. Also, make sure you are not missing obstructing. ...Read more

Constipated. Haven't gone in over a week other than very, very small amounts. Have used Miralax 2x, then epsom salts Edit: nevermind it worked

Good that it worked: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol) Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe medication, if needed. ...Read more

What happens if you overdose on miralax (polyethylene glycol)?

= Colonoscopy prep: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is essentially a small dose of oral lavage widely prescribed for years in preparation for colonoscopy. The drug is not generally absorbed, so more taken means more of it available to promote bowel evacuation. An "overdose" of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) approaches the dose that optimally cleanses the colon for colonoscopy as something called "MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) prep." don't "od" on your own--see doctor for right dose. ...Read more

Many conventionally available bowel preps are similar to MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) in chemical constituents, except the fact that they are larger volumes. What the right dose of miralax for a 4 month old baby?

What the right dose of miralax for a 4 month old baby?

I recommend 2.5-5 ml: But this depends a little on the size of your baby. Preschool children easily tolerate 1 cap full, which is 17 grams (about a tablespoon or 15ml). If dose is not effective in 8-12 hours, a repeat dose may be given until stool is soft. Too large a dose will cause diarrhea and can potentially cause dehydration, so be sure to offer fluids. ...Read more
