I recently developed an anal fissure during childbirth. I just started the topical ointment and bought miralax but got told dulcolax would work better?

You decide: Your effort will be to keep your stools soft enough to pass without reopening the fissure. The ointment may help with localized pain. I like the Miralax because it is more reliable as a stool wetting agent at keeping them soft. You can use it daily for weeks/months as needed once you figure out how much you need & how often to take it.Dulcolax can help you go but I find it less consumer friendly. ...Read more

No BM in 6 days. Took miralax x 2 days, dulcolax x 3 doses and had some result with saline enema and mineral oil Supp. Stomach distended, still passing gas, but no urge to go. No nausea or pain. Few bowel sounds with stethoscope?

Impacted: I think you've done all you can to relieve what may be a fecal impaction. The abdominal distension suggests partial intestinal obstruction as you are able to pass gas. I would expect some abdominal cramping. A rectal examination is needed and if you are impacted, manual disimpaction is required and is performed by the physician or a nurse under the physicians direction. Either way, get checked. ...Read more

Diarrhea: There is a lot that can be going on here. Your new ongoing diarrhea for 2 mo can be from laxative-induced effect. But if off laxatives, the diarrhea can be from overflow incontinence, or infection (eg, c diff infection), or ibs-diarrhea type. Other not-mentioned processes could be going on, so I recommend seeing a GI md and getting a good physical exam as well (including a digital rectal exam). ...Read more
