Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is working for myles. But when do I stop it? (he's 10)

Glad to hear it...: It's always gratifying to know a child has improved with such a simple, nonsystemic approach as miralax (polyethylene glycol). However, since we don't know your child, ; therefore what's wrong with him, its best to refer your question back to the doctor who sees him regularly ; had advised you about the choice of miralax (polyethylene glycol). ...Read more

Try enema: If laxative has not worked, you may try Fleet's enema. The medication is available over the counter at drug stores. Drink enough water so that your urine is mostly colorless and increase your intake of fiber by taking Metamucil or fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

If take miralax (polyethylene glycol) close to bedtime will my body he enough water to keep it working until next morning?

Presumably. . .: Miralax, a brand of generic polyethylene glycol 3350, is used as an osmotic laxative to treat constipation (http://www. Drugs. Com/miralax. Html). It works by increasing water in your bowels. Typically, this should not lead to dehydration. If you're concerned, take it in morning upon awakening. Better yet, discuss your concerns w/prescribing physician & dispensing pharmacist. ...Read more

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?

May not work: A gatorade and MiraLAX combination is not a common bowel prep in my experience. Miralax is an excellent laxative but if only one dose is taken, it is not likely to clean the colon out as well as is optimal for colonoscopy. A single dose might not produce a bm for a day or 2. Gatorade is an electrolyte-rich drink but not likely as effective as GoLytely or other polyethylene glycol solutions. ...Read more

What medical issues should I be concerned about if I am having chronic constipation and miralax (polyethylene glycol) and other laxatives are not working?

Evaluation needed...: Before you contemplate long term laxative dependency, seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). ...Read more

What to do about constipation in 3 year old? 3 year old doesn't want to use potty---holds it. Is taking miralax (polyethylene glycol) daily. Eats fiber bars. Doesn't like apple juice. Is constipated. Rectal suppository not working.

More miralax (polyethylene glycol): Talk to your doctor, but if she is still constipated on MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) she may need a higher dose of miralax (polyethylene glycol). If she is eating fiber bars make sure she is drinking plenty of water. She should also sit on the toilet for at least 15 minutes after each meal. Get her a foot stool so it is more comfortable to sit on the toilet that long. If all that doesn't help, she should see a pediatric GI doctor. ...Read more

10 year old constipation with vomiting almost a month now. Dr said miralax (polyethylene glycol) enema suppository. None working. Fired pediatrician. Options?

Dietary, lifestyle &: Psychosocial issues contribute to chronic functional constipation in school-age kids, See m.hopkinsmedicine. Org/healthlibrary/conditions/pediatrics/constipation_in_children_90, P01986/. If abdominal X-ray shows the need, oral Golytely is given for "clean-out", then daily Miralax (polyethylene glycol) for at least 6 mos. Vomiting may also be stress-related; rarely a GI disease can cause both. See a Pediatric GI doctor. ...Read more

I have a blockage of poop and the doctor gave me miralax (polyethylene glycol) and its not working I am in a lot of pain what do I do" my stomach and back are in a lot of pain

The: The fact that your stomach and back hurt and you "are in a lot of pain" along with the constipation are worrisome. You could be dealing with a bowel obstruction. If you have not done so already you need to seek medical care. For the future if constipation is your only concern and oral medications do not work, you can buy an over the counter enema.
Also drink plenty of fluids and eat a diet high in fiber.
Best of luck. ...Read more

What the right dose of miralax for a 4 month old baby?

What the right dose of miralax for a 4 month old baby?

I recommend 2.5-5 ml: But this depends a little on the size of your baby. Preschool children easily tolerate 1 cap full, which is 17 grams (about a tablespoon or 15ml). If dose is not effective in 8-12 hours, a repeat dose may be given until stool is soft. Too large a dose will cause diarrhea and can potentially cause dehydration, so be sure to offer fluids. ...Read more

Can I take 5 doses of Miralax if I am severely constipated?

Can I take 5 doses of Miralax if I am severely constipated?

Dose-dependent drug: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full & bloated. We can't tell from your question if this is a one-time problem or a recurrent and progressive one. Also, we don't know if you're blocked, if your gut is sluggish, or your rectum works correctly. Consult your doc. ...Read more

Does miralax and meautcimal if you take both will you get diarrhea and for how long will the diarrhea countinue for?

Depends: It would depend on how much of each of these medications you took. If there was only one episode of intake, the effects should wear off in a couple of days.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless.

What happens if you overdose on miralax (polyethylene glycol)?

What happens if you overdose on miralax (polyethylene glycol)?

= Colonoscopy prep: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is essentially a small dose of oral lavage widely prescribed for years in preparation for colonoscopy. The drug is not generally absorbed, so more taken means more of it available to promote bowel evacuation. An "overdose" of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) approaches the dose that optimally cleanses the colon for colonoscopy as something called "MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) prep." don't "od" on your own--see doctor for right dose. ...Read more

What would happen if I had 16 capfuls of miralax (polyethylene glycol) at once?

Laxative: Taking MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) at more than a recommended dose causes more diarrhea. This is often used as a bowel prep prior to colonoscopy in different brand names. Many conventionally available bowel preps are similar to MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) in chemical constituents, except the fact that they are larger volumes. You should stay hydrated and should go to er if you do not feel well. ...Read more

Can I still have Miralax as a prescription medication or is it only over the counter now?

Hard to say: This is something specific to your health care plan. Rule changes by the IRS removed over the counter products from those available as deductible on most HSA plans. Some insurers might cover this, others would not. Writing the script is the easy part. Getting it covered might be a problem. If you pay out of pocket, you would avoid the pharmacist service charge by buying it off the shelf. ...Read more

I am having issues with constipation cause by medicine Topomax 100mg and Neurotryptaline 10mg. May I use miralax twice in one day?

Dose-dependent: The more MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) you take the faster it works. As a once over-the-counter dosed laxative you may not see results for 3-4 days, but as a multi-dosed colonoscopy preparation (when used under doctor's advice) expect laxation within hours. As with any laxative however understand its mechanism of action, its risks, treatment goals. Also, make sure you are not missing obstructing. ...Read more
