I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow. I took my bowel prep of about an hour ago. In how much time will it start working? Will a gatorade/miralax mix not work?

May not work: A gatorade and MiraLAX combination is not a common bowel prep in my experience. Miralax is an excellent laxative but if only one dose is taken, it is not likely to clean the colon out as well as is optimal for colonoscopy. A single dose might not produce a bm for a day or 2. Almost equivalent: miralax (polyethylene glycol) is same ingredient of golytely, but mixing with gatorade would change the special salt/sugar balance of the lavage. making cold, or even squeezing a bit of lemon may take the unpleasant sea-water effect of golytely too. Equally important is what you have been eating before the lavage - no solids and definitely no roughage like fruits and veggies. See how clear stools are becoming. ...Read more

I took miralax prep for colonoscopy tomorrow..also 4 stool softeners as directed along with the broth jello diet..started the cleanse at 4 p.m. still ?

May take awhile: Hi BShetty, The bowel prep for a colonoscopy can be very challenging to take. Because the goal is to clear your colon of stool completely, the regimen is very aggressive and you may be having bowel movements almost continuously until it is just clear liquid coming out. Depending on the regimen, you may also experience residual cramping as the effects of the laxative wear off. Hope this helps. ...Read more
