Mineral oil : can I use as emollient for dry skin, does it work, will it give me pimples or bumps?

Mineral oil : can I use as emollient for dry skin, does it work, will it give me pimples or bumps?

Maybe.: Contrary to what you read on the internet, mineral oil is pretty harmless. If you apply it right after showering, while your skin is still moist, it will seal in the moisture and relieve dryness. If you have very sensitive skin you might get pimples or bumps from plugged up oil glands - but you won't know unless you try it. ...Read more

I have really dry skin, so I use baby oil, but I heard that it is not good to do. What is the true fact?

I have really dry skin, so I use baby oil, but I heard that it is not good to do. What is the true fact?

Disagree: With all respect, i know of no credible evidence that mineral oil does any of the horrible things claimed in the previous answer. I know you'll find similar stuff all over the internet, none by physicians, with no evidence to support it. The fda classifies it as "generally safe for human contact and consumption". Whatever you use for dry skin, apply it after bathing while skin is still moist. ...Read more

If 100grm of squash has 100% RDI of carotene, how much roughly could be eaten daily without skin yellowing? Would mineral oil stop absorption much?

If 100grm of squash has 100% RDI of carotene, how much roughly could be eaten daily without skin yellowing? Would mineral oil stop absorption much?

All you want.: 1st, there is no official RDI for carotene; everybody has a different number. 2nd, I've never seen carotenosis from squash (and my daughter, a vegetarian, eats a TON of it). 3rd, carotenosis due to eating vegetables is harmless, so if you somehow eat enough squash to yellow your skin, cutting back will reverse it. So eat what you want. Mineral oil would have no significant effect on absorption. ...Read more
