Milk Thistle Vs Dandelion Root
What I am taking: Multivitamin, biotin5000mg, dandelion root, burdock root, msm, milk thistle. Is this ok?
I have elevated liver enzymes and would like to know if milk thistle and dandelion root will help get the enzymes back to normal?
Don't waste $$$.: There's no firm, replicable evidence that these agents have any real benefit to the liver. Find out what's actually wrong with the liver and see if it's treatable. That would be the best way to treat a liver issue. ...Read more
Currently taking milk thistle, dandelion, licoriche and artichoke. Will they react negatively with tramadol?
Unlikely: Dandelion has diuretic properties, milk thistle enhances liver detoxification, licorice helps adrenal glands, and artichoke thins bile and makes the gall bladder contract. The tramadol may get metabolized a little more quickly, but I do not expect an interaction that could be harmful. ...Read more

Don't know.: Hi, with the current evidence that we have it's not possible to recommend any type of detox for fatty liver. Fat in the liver can be of 2 types nafld ; nash. Nafld is where fat is present but not causing harm and NASH when it's damaging your liver. We don't when nafld turns into NASH or if they r separate entities. See a hepatologist for bld work 2 c if the liver is ok. He can recommend treatment. ...Read more

Save your money: Hi. First of all, stop paying a fortune for homeopathic nonsense (eve primrose, milk thistle, dandelion tea). What is the cause of your fatty liver? Alcoholism, viral hepatitis, obesity, type 2 diabetes, etc? If possible, treat the underlying cause. What are your blood lipid levels? You should be evaluated by a gastroenterologist. Good question!: Both milk thistle and ragweed are in the asteraceae botanical family. While this might be enough to increase the chance they share common allergens, I was unable to find information in the scientific literature that the allergy to one increased risk to the other. Since information is lacking, be cautious and use the expertise of an allergist. A skin test might be helpful or a stepwise challenge. ...Read more

Liver Healing: First there is no medication to take if the liver is damaged or inflamed. Milk thistle, which has a mixed reputation among scientists, has been used for years world wide to assist in liver healing. I often recommend it to my patients given there is no health damage that would be caused by the use of milk thistle. I would say take it until your liver functions have returned to normal. ...Read more
