I have completed 32 week of pregnancy in my latest ultrasound report it showed mild oligohydramnios, what precautions should I take. Please advise any treatment?

Oligohydramnios: Just means there is less amniotic fluid in your gestational sac than normal. Continue to drink liquids plenty and hope for the best. Oligohydramnios only elevates the perinatal fetal risks such as nuchal cord and fetal hypoxia. Please keep close watch with your OB doctor and good luck. ...Read more

What foods is best for oligohydramnios?

What foods is best for oligohydramnios?

No special foods...: There are no special foods to help prevent or treat oligohydramnios, so a pregnant woman can just stay on her usual healthy diet. It is believed that dehydration in the mom can cause oligohydramnios, so the mom should avoid getting dehydrated. ...Read more

How long does paregnancy associated with oligohydramnios last?

Depends: How long oligohydramnios lasts depends on the cause and what is done to address it. It can last up until delivery and needs to be very carefully managed, usually with the help of a maternal-fetal medicine expert (a doctor who treats high risk pregnancies). Hope this helps. ...Read more

No.: Lidaderm patch (5%) is NOT classified as a narcotic. The active ingredient is an anesthetic (Lidocaine). The drug decreases the nerves from transmitting painful impulses to spinal cord and subsequently to the brain. Lidocaine in non-habit forming.

How does preeclampsia causes oligohydramnios?

How does preeclampsia causes oligohydramnios?

Decreased fetal GFR.: Oligohydramnios is a sign of decreased fetal glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in the absence of rupture of amniotic membranes. Preeclampsia can cause placental failure and thus poor perfusion of the fetoplacental unit leading to oligohydramnios. ...Read more

Reasons for oligohydramnios, how to prevent in next pregnancy?

Reasons for oligohydramnios, how to prevent in next pregnancy?

Placenta: Most commonly the placenta is the source of oligohydramnios (though congenital abnormalities can occur too). Most common reason for oligo are related to blood pressure. Did you have a problem with elevated blood pressure in the pregnancy? Or with diabetes? Exercise is a great way to prevent both of those problems. 60 min of cardiovascular exercise a day, 5-6 days a week is best! ...Read more

Does leaking fluid causes oligohydramnios to a pregnant woman?

Eventually!: Amniotic fluid made by a contribution and maternal and fetal sources such a fetus urine (sterile). Leakage of fluid will eventually challenge the speed of fluid that can be formed. Consult with your obgyn since this may be urgent! ...Read more

Subchorionic hemorrhage, placental abruption, oligohydramnios (20w3d). What does this all mean? Is it serious?

Placenta: This means there is a collection of blood between the placenta and the uterine wall- therefore the abruption, the term oligohydramnios basically means low amniotic fluid and can have multiple causes including placenta dysfunction on the side of the mother, of problems with the fetus- problems with the kidneys. Please speak to your physician and seek a referral to a perinatologist. ...Read more

Hi im 22 weeks and 6 days, im pregnant with triplets and today I found out one of my babies has moderate oligohydramnios with intact membranes, help?

Fetal lung fluid & urine make amniotic fluid, right? So what caused oligohydramnios?

Fetal lung fluid & urine make amniotic fluid, right? So what caused oligohydramnios?

Decreased perfusion: Oligo can be either loss of fluid or decreased production. A stressed infant will shunt oxygenated blood to more vital organs, less renal perfusion, therefore less urine produced. Anything that decreases placental perfusion can cause it (abruption or placental separation, poor implantation, vascular problems, clots, uterine abnls, etc). There are too many causes to list here, ask your ob. ...Read more

I'm 20 weeks 6 days pregnant my ultrasound result shows oligohydramnios fetal ascites is there anyway I can save my baby?

Diagnosis: Obviously both of those are negative signs at this gestational age. If not done already, asked to be referred to a perinatologist for a evaluation. TORCH blood testing, a fetal echocardiogram and possibly an amniocentesis should be done. Fetal DNA sequencing can be done from maternal blood in some cases. ...Read more

Ultrasound result: single live intrautrerine pregnancy, presently cephalic, 20weeks and 5days gestation, oligohydramnios fetal ascites. What can I do

See perinatologist: Its frightening to have an ultrasound that gives news that isn't perfect. Oligohydramnios means that there isn't enough fluid around the baby. You can help make more fluid by drinking lots and lots of water and getting enough rest. You need to see a perinatologist to find out why. This is a doctor who concentrates on complicated pregnancies to find out why. Best Wishes! ...Read more

Hi doctor im pregnant 36 week in ultrasound placenta little bleeding and mild oligohydrominos pleas this condition is danger?

Ultrasound results?: Bleeding if it is between the uterine wall and the placenta can be serious. Mild oligohydramnios if the fetal kidneys are working, your water bag has not broken or there is no growth slowing is probably ok. Discuss with your ob. The ultrasound results given by the perinatologist or radiologist to your OB is what can answer how dangerous or not your situation is. ...Read more

What is the chance of survival of a fetus with Oligohydraminos, Dolicho-cephalic Head & Mild abdominal ascites with echogenic bowel?

Many factors: Oligohydramnios is often associated with congenital kidney disease, placental problems, post maturity, premature rupture of membranes. Were kidneys seen? Abdominal ascites can be related to kidney problems.Dolochocephaly related to closure of sagittal suture in skull. Everything depends on severity of oligohydramnios and its etiology as to prognosis of child. ...Read more

What symptoms of low amniotic fluid are the most important?

What symptoms of low amniotic fluid are the most important?

Oligohydramnios: Low amniotic fluid or oligohydramnios is a condition brought about by a decreased production of urine by the fetus either through a decreased placental perfusion or blocked urinary outlet, to name a few. It could also result from a ruptured amniotic membrane. One of the first signs of low fluid is a size-date discepancy of the growing uterus. An ultrasound will help to diagnose the condition. ...Read more

In an ultrasonogram had slightly low amniotic fluid. What is cure?

No specific cure: Oligohydramnios occurs infrequently in pregancy and there is no specific cure. Sometimes the amniotic fluid volume will increase with increased fluid intake (increased hydration). However the cause of the low fluid volume is the important factor and the specific management will depend on that diagnosis. ...Read more

Low amniotic fluid at 39 weeks. Should they deliver?

Probably: If your afi is < 5, yes. If it's borderline, between 5-8, it should be strongly considered unless your cervix is unfavorable (difficult to induce d/t being closed, thick, and/or firm). If they wait, you also need a normal non-stress test (nst) or biophysical profile (bpp). If your afi > 8, it's ok to wait. Discuss this with your OB & make sure you understand "kick counts" & when to go to l&d. ...Read more

What's effective for helping to prevent low amniotic fluid?

Low amniotic fluid: Amniotic fluid levels are a indicator of good fetal health. Sometimes low fluid can just be representative of poor maternal hydration. Other times low fluid (oligohydramnios) can represent an adverse intrauterine enviorment due to many medical problems like hypertension or preeclampsia. Certain fetal and placental issues can also cause low fluid. Diagnosis and treatment can increase fluid. ...Read more
