Rash: Skin rashes are not uncommon with these types of medication. If it remains of little consequence then I would continue the medication. However if it persists and is getting worse you need to see your dr for a change of medication ...Read more

Known side effect: Itching is a known adverse effect of any opiate medication which includes codeine, and it's not indicative of an allergy to the medication. You usually won't get a rash along with the itching, but the skin will turn red where it is scratched. It generally peaks after each dose and improves within a couple hours. Hand foot and mouth : Yes HFM is mostly a summer virus but the virus does not follow the rules. Your description fits very well. The blisters last 1-2 weeks in the hands and feet. The oral sores are earlier and go away after a week. The rash is contagious if the vesicles are opened and drained. There is no treatment. Pain meds do help if needed. Drink lots of fluids.
