Could you explain why I should trust Metoprolol for high blood pressure? Are there any alternative medications that you would recommend?
Trust?: Trust is a discussion that you should have w/your Family Doc. Metoprolol is one of several beta blockers approved to lower blood pressure & slow down heart rate but at risk of making you feel tired or preventing athletes from reaching peak performance. Other drug classes for hypertension include ACE inhibitors (and cousin ARB), calcium channel blockers & diuretics. Check out http://goo.gl/ck2jlj ...Read more
Accidentally took wrong high blood pressure pill 100mg metoprolol at 500am this morning instead of my hydrochlorthyazide 25mg pill what shti do?
Be Smart: You'll probably be all right. The metoprolol will wear off within 12 hours (24 hours if it's toprol xl or Metoprolol Succinate instead of tartrate) and it's extremely unlikely to cause serious problems if all you took was one. Pick up the correct regimen tomorrow. That said, usual disclaimers: my advice here is generic and not specific to your case, and you should see an er if you have symptoms. ...Read more
Dr wants to take me off Metoprolol 25mg twice per day, & place me on cloversyl 2mg once per day. Is this safe? (I do have high blood pressure)
My blood pressure has been high taking 3 medications and walgreens pharma said I should not take metoprolol and atenolol together so i need to know ?
Beta blockers: Both medicines are beta blockers which lower blood pressure and pulse. Usually taking an adequate dose of one or the other would be better than taking both. There can be other reasons for taking beta blockers; ask the prescribing physician before you change or stop any BP meds. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I just started on blood pressure meds 2 days ago it metoprolol .25 mg. twice daily. And my doc put me on clonidinr hcl0.1 As needed. Is it okay to take the two together. Or should I wait an estimated time between the two?
Can take together.: The two medicines work by different medications, so there shd be no problem taking them together. Clonidine, in particular, is "centrally acting" & is supposed to stabilize ur BP, not cause low BP. However, that being said, if u take the 2 together & then start feeling bad, take ur BP right away & write it down. If ur BP drops precipitously 2-3 hrs after taking meds consistently, TTYD abt the prob ...Read more

Ford v Chevy v Dodge: This is a question best addressed w/your doctor. Both are good blood pressure lowering medications that also keep your heart from beating too fast (beta blocker class). Toprol (metoprolol) has more studies recently regarding benefit in heart failure. Of course, cost can play into decision, too, although both are available as generics for $4/mo (http://i.Walmartimages.Com/i/if/hmp/fusion/customer_list.Pdf). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Switched from procardia XL to the generic for toprol (metoprolol) xl, when will I see a difference in my blood pressure?

Just got off Coreg (carvedilol) and beginning Metoprolol ER now. Anything I should look for and will it cause an increase in my blood pressure?
Beta blockers: Both Coreg (carvedilol) & Metoprolol (tartrate & succinate) are blood pressure lowering medications in the beta blocker class which slows heart rate in add'n to lowering BP. Work w/your dispensing doc to find correct dose that lowers your BP (goal <150/90) & HR (low 60s). Record your BP @ home then bring your cuff to your doc for calibration. ...Read more
