If I have migraine syndrome& decide to take med like topamax/Depakote, will i have to be on it forever, or can it break the migraine cycle&then stop?

If I have migraine syndrome& decide to take med like topamax/Depakote, will i have to be on it forever, or can it break the migraine cycle&then stop?

It depends: The fact is like a lot of other conditions, once you have it, you will always be prone to it. This is no different. Once a migraine sufferer, always a migraine sufferer. some do have periods of remissions, but it is hard to predict whom and when will go into remission. Men by nature don't suffer from migraines as much as women and when they do have them, they are not as intense or frequent. ...Read more

I am taking topiramate for migraine and now I have seizures can it be cause of the meds and if i stop taking them can I still have the seizures?

I am taking topiramate for migraine and now I have seizures can it be cause of the meds and if i stop taking them can I still have the seizures?

Get doc's advice: The topiramate is fine for both migraine and epilepsy control, as long as you are not experiencing bad side effects, but topiramate does not cause seizures for anyone, and if you stop, you will have more headaches and more seizures. This could be very risky. You need to uncover cause of szs, and plan appropriate therapeutic interventions. ...Read more

I have taken max-alt, trexamet, I am now on frova, (frovatriptan) and daily dose of topamax a day. Is there a migraine med that would work better for me!

See below: Seems that your doctor has adopted the right approaches, i.e., prevent the headache and knock it out when it appears. Frova (frovatriptan) should help the latter, and maybe you might feel better taking an otc preventative such as butterbur, feverfew, riboflavin, co-q10, or magnesium. Consider acupuncture, occipital nerve blocks, or botox. ...Read more

You must discuss it: Be certain that your Dr(s) know about the drugs you take and urge them to work on the best resolution of this situation. It's way to delicate, complicated and important for you to manage on your own. Their training is for this sort of thing and it's their responsibility to handle it.
