Tension Headache: Brain aneurysms almost never cause symptoms until they leak, or outright rupture. When this occurs, it commonly is "the worse headache" of a person's life. Chronic headaches are almost never from an aneurysm. With the advent of MRI angiography, it is much easier to screen for aneurysms. Consult with your local physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Spreading depression: We believe that migraine proceeds from the back of brain forwards with a neuronal inhibition starting over the occipital lobe, and mediated by changes in the brain stem, especially locus ceruleus. The visual process is not retinal, but brain mediated, and the term is called "spreading depression of leao". ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

I have IIH &a daily migraines. Have episodes of hemiplegic migraine which last maximum 2 months. Scans and tests negative for stroke. What causes this?
IIH and HM: many times we don't have an answer for why IIH happens. Often we see IIH in women who have been using certain acne medications or who have gained weight rapidly, but the mechanism of this increased pressure is unknown. Hemiplegic migraines, on the other hand, are often due to a calcium channel mutation - there is a genetic tendency for this protein to let too much calcium in and cause migraine ...Read more

Old lacunar infarcts or bilateral benign cysts found in basal ganglion. Seeing neuro soon. Possible cause of my migraine w/ stroke like symptoms?
Unlikely,: Not unique for an MRI to show white matter lesions in pts who have history of migraine, especially complex episodes, either classical or hemiplegic. Strokes with migraine, seems most associated with auras, cigarette smoking, and hormonal use. The root cause of your episodes is genetic, which changes your brain glutamate sensitivity. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Not all strokes that occur in patients with ma are related to the headache, other etiologies may exist, such as patent foramen ovale and arterial dissection. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I have been diagnosed with hemiplegic migraine. Is this dangerous? Am I more likely to get a stroke?
Yes: Migraines are associated with somewhat increased risk of stroke. You should do your best to minimize risk by not smoking and not taking birth control pills. Do not let a doctor prescribe triptan medications like Imitrex (sumatriptan) and others, or ergotamine medications for 'complex' migraines. Migraine preventative meds should be considered and you should talk to your doctor about this. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How do I know if what i experienced was an aura or a mini stroke an if I should be concerned about the migraine i still have a week later.?
Control yourself: Anxiety is your worst enemy. Migraine causes constriction of the blood vessels to the brain, but should then relax and recovery with time. In rare cases this can result in a permanent deficit or "stroke". Most cases recover fully without residua. Anxiety and tension will extend the migraine and the risk. Use Aspirin and relaxation and control yourself. Get a thorough evaluation by your md. ...Read more

Had tunnel vision last Thursday along with a dream state. Now everything is tilting to the left with naseau. Migraine induced stroke 2012. Am I anoth?
Only way to find out: is to get scanned. A stroke is a medical emergency. Call your doctor. If he/she doesn't think you need to go to an ER, go anyway. Migrainous strokes are usually quite small but still not to be taken lightly. A CT is likely inadequate: for migrainous strokes, MRI is the test of choice. I hate unnecessary testing, so if I'M telling you to get scanned, you know I'm concerned. ...Read more
