Can mifepristone be reversed?

Can mifepristone be reversed?

No. Discuss with MD.: A medical abortion or an induced miscarriage can occur with either the use of mifepristone or misoprostol however both have unacceptably high failure rates on their own. They should be used together either simultaneously if miso given vaginally or 24h apart if miso given bucchally. It is effective up to 10wks but never 100% effective. That's why GYN/MD follow up is critical. Do not try on your own

How does mifeprex work for abortions?

How does mifeprex work for abortions?

Mifeprex action: Mifepristone is a synthetic steroid. It binds to Progesterone receptors (uterus) blocking the effects of progesterone. Progesterone is needed for continuation of pregnancy. When used for the termination of pregnancy, this leads to contraction-inducing activity in the uterine muscle, greater sensitivity to prostaglandins(other medication) and damage to vessels supporting the pregnancy.

Wait: If you just took the mifepristone today, then you should give it a little more time. Typically, women take the misoprostol AFTER they take the mifepristone. Typically 24 to 48 hours after the mifepristone.

Medical supervision: The drug is approved for up to 70 days gestation to terminate pregnancy. A single dose of 200 mg is usually followed by misoprostol 800 mg in 24-48 hours. It is important to be evaluated by your doctor prior to taking any medication like this to determine if your situation is appropriate and safe. Hope this helps.
