Probably not heart: Considering your age its unlikely the heart. But a full physical and and detailed history with an ekg and labs would be good to asess the problem and use for future comparison. I have been having dysphagia and midsternal chest pain. Just had a left thyroid lobectomy 4 days ago. Lortab decreases the pain. Thoughts?

Anesthesia ; Surgery: Some medications used during induction of surgery can cause muscle pain, and should start to resolve within 7 days. Also, sometimes the surgeon needs to lean on your chest for proper positioning which can cause postoperative pain. The surgery also involves stretching many muscles in your neck which could account for the dysphagia. Nevertheless you should seek medical attention to confirm this.

My chest pain when I smoke?

Angina! Stop smoking!: This is a warning sign that you have structural heart damage (HEART DISEASE) that is probably caused by smoking tobacco products. Smoking tobacco releases toxins, in addition to nicotine, which causes damage to the vessels around the heart. The instantaneous "spasm" of blood vessels limits blood flow to the heart muscle, causing chest pain. Your body is trying to tell you something. See a doctor!
