Low BP, apnea, etc.: Midazolam/versed is a fast acting medication (related to benzodiazepines) that works on the gaba receptors. Used peri-operatively to produce sedation and retrograde amnesia (helps you forget pain). Because it has a short half-life (1.5 to 3 hours), it is often preferred over diazepam.
